Alright, I'm going to give you a hypothetical situation and I need you to help me with it. All of the names and things will be fake, but you should still be able to help regardless.
Alright... My computer is connected to a router wirelessly and my dad's laptop is connected to it with patch cable. I want to make a shared folder between the computers, and also enable network printing through his computer. Lets say the following information is true: His Computer: User he's Logged in as: KevinG Domain his computer is on: pwnage.net Computer Name: DADDYO My Computer: User Logged in as: Informationator Workgroup: PWN Computer Name: ROXOR Lets say I want to connect the folder on my computer: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents ...to the folder on his comptuer: C:\Documents and Settings\KevinG.pwnage\My Documents\Gary\Transfer ...How will I go about doing this? I've been messing around trying to make a new network connection in my network places but have had no success. I have his admin pass and everything so that's no problem... I've done something similar before, but this is a different situation. ...also, how will I manage the network printing? Thanks! ![]()

Ah... where do i start. I set up network printing in my house between a Windows ME and a windows XP computer. Although it was kind of luck, and uh... lots of poking around.
PART 1 Well, make sure the folders you want to share are set as 'Shared' or 'Shared on Network' or what ever it says. Its something along those lines. Both computers also need to have an IPX/NetBIOS Protocol installed. This is part of windows XP, but is a ****ing bugger to get to. Im not sure what it does, or why you need it, but its one of the things i did when settings up my network. I found it on some net tutorial thingy. I get to it by clicking the windows wireless connection thing in the systray and then clicking Open Network Connections (this will show a list of connections. Right Click on your networks connection) - > Properties It is in this window you need to click Add -> Protocol -> IPX/NetBIOS Protocol. It wont say exactly that, but it will say something very similar. Just choose the one that has IPX in the name, lol. You can also get to the aforementioned screen by going (In XP): Start -> Connect To -> Show All Connections -> Right click on your network connection -> Properties. Also at this screen you need to install the 'File and Printer sharing' service. Add -> services -> file and printer sharing. PART 2. (Now i did this using the 'Wireless Network setup wizard' as my network is wireless. To do this with a WIRED network, use the 'Network setup wizard'. They should be pretty much the same.) Load up the wizard, and follow it through. Make sure you remember what all of your computers names are. Now the critical part is to set all of the computers WORKGROUP name to be the same. My network is called 'Nox Network', so that it stands out from every other type of name everything has. You need to run the wizard on each computer, making sure you use the same workgroup name on each computer. Once you have done this, you should be able to see all the computers on the network by going: Start -> My Network Places. You can acces the default shared folder on each computer by clicking on it in this screen. PART 3. Now to set up a printer. As long as the first part works fine (you can see the other compuiters and their shared folders) this is a piece of cake. On the computer the printer is installed on you must go: Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and other hardware -> view installed printers. Right click the installed printer and set it as shared. Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and other hardware -> add a printer. This will load a wizard. Click next.At this point you need to select 'A network printer' rather than the default 'local printer'. Click next. -> Browse for a printer. You can now browse to the location of the printer. In my case: Nox network -> the computer the printer is hooked upto -> click the printer. And thats pretty much it. Any questions just give me a shout. I apologize if its a bit muddled or difficult to understand. Im not a pro at this, and it took me a long time to bumble my way through it myself, but i am sure i have got it right And its 3am.

Thx for the rep, glad you appreciated
![]() I know it is a bit unclear and i apologize again for that. If theres anything that you cant get working just let me know. Do it here rather than in PM, that way other people can read it, and learn something new
