Default Here is my requisite thread for joining

My name is Neutrino and I am joining looking to learn some of the more technical aspects of system building before I attempt my first build.

My interests are Science, Science, and more Science. I have extensive knowledge about most hard science fields. If you have to test me on that claim, go ahead and post something for me to answer.

As far as what I want to accomplish on this forum; I want to try and learn about system building as it would relate to workstations or similarly capable computers. I like computer games like HL2, Sim City 4, the Mechwarrior Series, Homeworld, and others. However, I have always preferred the supercomputer like approach of maybe not the fastest, but just about impossible to slow. So I am attempting to build something along the line of enormous ram (4GB or more) and processing power.

Well I hope I can help the forums and will post system info when i finally get the money to start.

Greetings,

The topic(s) of Science do seem to arise often enough here, with much heated debating... glad to know we'll have someone to set us straight.

Welcome, and get ready....

I already know about folding@home and what it is trying to accomplish. I believe it is the study of proteomics, which is the study of protein interactions in the body and how they affect us. From what i understand of the area is that interactions between proteins change the physical shape of the protein, otherwise known as protein folding. The problem is that the shape of the protein affects its interactions almost as much as the chemical formula; also the shapes are extremely complex and consume a lot of processing power. So Protein Folding@home was created to run like seti@home to aid IBM's Blue Gene and other supercomputers to work on processing the folding of proteins and how they interact. I believe Bovine Spongiform Encephalopothy (BSE or mad cow) has an almost catalytic effect that is based on its shape and that effect changes other proteins to prions like BSE. That concludes my one necessary example that i do in fact have extensive knowledge of science. I have considered joining that BOINC project, but have been running seti@home on my desktop, and my desktop is rather old and slow to do much more than that.
Btw, I am looking to gain an electrical engineering or physics degree.
