Default Hello Everyone
Hi I'm new here and I have been browsing through the forums for a few days, and decided to join.
So here's my situation: I have a budget of around $400 CDN and am looking for a new mobo/cpu combo.
Right now I'm leaning towards a Athlon 64 3000+ Winnie, and don't really have any ideas for what motherboard I should get. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

*EDIT - AGP slot needed.

looks sufficient in my opinion

looks cheap and nice

I would recommend DFI but heard some ppl complaining about its pickiness.

Wow, that was fast. The CHAINTECH VNF4 looks good, but doesn't seem to have AGP. Thx for the suggestions.

Oh and Welcome Progenicus hope you have a good time here.

I would help you on the motherboard but im an intel man myself so i can't comment on AMD boards although gigabyte and chaintech both have a good reputation and asus is also a good make which are supposedly easy to overclock.

I've heard many people advise against DFI, but just as many swear by it. Could anyone tell me what problems these people are talking about? TIA.

One of the problems that I've heard about DFI mobo's (I've never used it before) is that the mobo has its own "personality" or something. It's picky about what needs to be plugged in there and stuff, meaning RAM, vid. card, etc need to be "legitimate", that's what I've read. Please correct if I'm wrong. Don't wanna steer the guy into wrong direction.

So for example the system might be unstable/not work if you have a stick of RAM in slot 2 instead of slot 1?
