Default Sup, I'm new

I've been looking for a good board to discuss PC hardware, and this place seems pretty good.

I currently have a crappy low-budget computer (Which will soon be my dad's), but I'll have a powerful gaming rig by my birthday next year.

So yeah, hi.

Well, this is what I've estimated so far:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
4 GB DDR2 800 RAM
nVidia 8800 GTX
1 TB hard drive
Windows Vista Premium

I'm sure quite a bit will change before my birthday though.

Welcome bro. You have found the finest overclockers on the entire web. (I don't really include myself in that statement)

yea by the time your birthday comes around next gen intel penryn and amd pheonoms plus DDR3 will be available for sure. I can see you like AMD but if you were to buy that right right now i would recommend a amd 5200+( and overclock it to or past 6000+ speeds) or even better a c2d plus a p35 mobo. Everything else looks fine, would you really need 1TB of storage? 2 drives in raid are killer in performance and can yield high caps. 4gb of memory is a good choice especilly with vista but i think ms is going to fix that issue with sp1. Well, when your bday shows up we will definitely help you out getting a new rig.

If you aren't getting it till next year, you'll probably change almost everything you think right now you are going to get. AMD has a complete new line coming out in quarter 1 of 2008. Also by then you may be looking at DDR3 memory, but you can post up questions about all of that in the correct threads.

Hey! Yea... everything will change man. Unfortunately even now what you listed is soon to be last years technology. Hell, I'm two years out of the loop and I just built this new machine at the beginning of summer.

Windows Vista Premium? Get Ultimate if you're going 64bit. It's the only way to go if you're going Windows. Of course I'd recommend linux over anything else though

Yeah, I do kinda need 1TB, you'd be surprised how much stuff I have.

And my birthday is in February, anyone know if the new stuff will be out by then?
