Hello all
I was browsing the classifieds on here and though I'd start posting. My Aldi Medion PC finally crashed, so I got to build a new PC. I wanted to wait until after Christmas, but college homework said otherwise. Most of the stuff is in my sig. I ran out of money for a video card, so that's why I'm kickin the ATI Rage. I'm hoping I can find some sales on Black Friday for a good video card, so we'll see. Anyway, it will be good posting with you all!!

Just to clarify, in my sig (the first time) I put DDR2-6400 - I know that doesn't exist yet. PC6400 is more like it (DDR2-800). Woops!! Anyway, thanks for the welcome!

if you can fork out the funds, a 8800GT is where the price/performance is at!

I'm pretty anal about researching things (I'm worse than most women) - it took me two weeks to figure out which processor and which motherboard to go with. I've been mulling over video cards for about 2 weeks now. I want to spend between $100-150. I know quite a bit about PCs, but the last one I built myself was a Celeron 300A (which, by the way, is still running at 622MHz). I haven't overclocked since then. I bought my most recent one as a system (Medion) and it came with an AGP 8X nVidia with 128 MB of memory. I'd reuse it, but the new MB is PCI-e.
I haven't bought a PC game in awhile, but I would like to start buying and playing them (like Bioshock, NFS Prostreet, etc). I also watch a lot of movies on my PC and plan on getting a hi-def (either HD-DVD or Blu-Rayburner next year. I'm also going to get a TV tuner card, preferably with over-the-air hi-def. So, I've been trying to figure out what I need (ATI vs nVidia, 256 GDDR3 vs 512 GDDR2, stuff like that). I know I can't ask questions in this newbie part, so I'll post it in the appropriate area.

If you do a lot of HTPC stuff, ATI is the way to go, they have all of that stuff set up for you like UVD, Avivo, and all those other things, not to mention they have been in the tv tuner/capture card industry for ages now
__________________If your looking to spend about 150 dollars, I would say save up another 30, and buy a Radeon HD 3850, Its got everything you could ever want for an HTPC, and It will play all of those games you mentioned at decent quality levels with rock-solid framerates Heres a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129101 (I linked the VisionTek one because I think it looks nicer than the other ones lol, but you can obviously get a sapphire or HIS, depending on your preference)

The graphics card came from my dusty basement. I couldn't decide which card to buy, and I had college homework and online banking to do, so I just threw it in (well, I dusted it off first) for now.
