Default Long time reader, first time poster

Well, like the title says, I've always been a lurker. Just never got up the gusto (or the patience) to put all my info in and get my profile all set up. However, I just jumped head long into a new build and am sure I will be needed some help along the way.

A little history on me...

I started building computers back in the 386 days. Taking math co-processors out of 486's and transplanting them. VLB video cards. Jagged Alliance and X-Com... Yea, those were the days.

Soon after I started building, I started over clocking and never really stopped. I remember using motherboard jumpers to change my FSB when 66MHz was still a big deal. Then when 75MHz came out... wow, what a cool deal. OH and those celeron 333's. Yep, those WERE the best of the day and haven't seen anything since (until these 2100's). I think in this time I only managed to fry 1 cpu and it was an AMD K6-2 333 or something of that nature.

I'm an AMD guy a heart, but will stray if something Intel has catches my interest. Not to loyal when it comes to video cards. I'll get whatever sounds good at the time I'm ready to buy.

I'm HUGE on price/performance ratio. I hardly ever buy high end and just stick to whats proven and reliable and gives me the most for my money. Over clocking inherently helps with such ventures of course.

I guess that's about it. I added all my current stuff in my specs and will update as soon as I get the new rig and start with the fun of assembly, etc. Hopefully I can learn some things along the way. It's been a while since I've upgraded and now I'm going to a whole new platform w/Intel. Wish me luck!!!

Hey, man welcome to overclock.net . Yes, come join the dark side with us intel users; the Q6600 has an amazing price/performance level, for $280, you can overclock it on stock voltage with stock cooling in a snap to the level of the QX6850 which is around $1000. This is a great forum and I hope you enjoy your stay .

Thanks for the kind welcome guys. I got all my stuff in today so I'll be starting a new thread in the Intel section to track my progress. Installing Windows now.

Yeah, the E2180 has a really good price/performance for the money as well, it is great for people who don't want to spend a lot on a processor. You can overclock it with aftermarket cooling to the level of a X6800 (expect with less cache), which is still around $900, or a E6850 (Same thing a X6800, but without unlocked multiplier, and yes intel is actually unlocking multipliers now (with the $1000 CPU's) )which is $280. You will learn so much if you hang around here long enough, you seem pretty knowledgeable already, so you will be a good addition to the forums .

Thanks Pook. It USED to be a nice rig. Until it started randomly shutting down on me while gaming. Can't figure out what's wrong and quite frankly I was sick of diagnosing anything and everything without finding the cause. Oh well. It pushed me to upgrade and I'm glad I finally did. Should be a fun trip.

Thread is up in the Intel section. I'll be doing my best to update it with pics and such for progress tracking and any questions I may have. Take a look if you'd like!
