New to Overclock.net

Hello all.
I have been reading this site for a while reading about different aspects of my machine and how to build it better. A few days ago I finally built it and am starting to mess around with overclocking. It makes me nervous to push my machine too far with the little knowledge I have.
__________________Currently my machine is: CPU: AMD 64 x2 4600+ 2.4ghz. (OCed to 2.72ghz) - TT Big Typhoon GPU: Asus 8800gt 512 (712/1798/900[1800]) - Stock cooling. (soon to be 2) PSU: OCZ 700 watt Mobo: Asus M2N32-SLI DLX WIFI AM2 RAM: 4 gigs Currently my CPU runs at a max of 43c on a full load with the cooling set up I have in it, but I would like to make it a higher speed than what it is at. Cooling hasn't been an issue, but system stability has. I haven't had ANY problems with its current setting, so I have stayed there with it. My rig still isn't reaching the performance I would like it to, I believe it is my CPU that is bottlenecking but I am not sure if it is my settings or what. Like I said, I am really new to this so go easy on me. Would like to learn what I can and can't do with my machine, so any pointers or advice would be greatly appreciated.

you've got a nice computer there. i don't know the OC limit of that chip, but make sure you post in the AMD section and your questions will surely get answered
