Default Welcome! Now let's get started.

Hi, and welcome as a new member of Overclock.net.

If you are new to forums and overclocking please follow these easy steps to make things easier for us when you ask us for help, advice and opinions. After making a new thread in the New Members forum telling us about you this is what I suggest you do.

1. Read the rules

2. Add your system information. This is for all other users to see what we are working with when you ask for help. It is also a brilliant place to brag about your tri-sli ultras.

3. Download CoreTemp to monitor temperatures, this is vital. CoreTemp only works with multi-core CPU's, you can download Speedfan if you are on a single-core CPU. It is good at accessing sensors but it might need some additional setting up.

4. Download Orthos, a very good way to stress your CPU to find out what your maximum temperatures are. This is the only way you can find out what limits you are working with. Note: If you are running a quad-core CPU, you need to run 2 instances of Orthos, and setting manual core-affinity in the task manager (ctrl+shift+esc, right click on orthos and select two cores. Then select the other orthos.exe and select the other 2 cores.)

5. Run Orthos while monitoring temperatures with Coretemp closely. For maximum stress on your CPU you can run a test called Small FFT.

6. Search the forum for information on your CPU and motherboard. It is a good idea to search for the CPU's name (ie. E6750, Q6600, E6850 etc) instead of searching for "Core 2 duo 3,0 ghz".

Congratulations! You are ready to start OC'ing. There are many good guides for you who has just entered the world of overclocking. They are all collected HERE.

Yeah. Sorry about that. Every day I welcome a new member with this information. Now I can just link him to my own thread. I didn't find a easily visible one, so I thought I could make a new one and let people know what they should do before asking.

Thanks!
