Default NooB Status! Hello

Hello OCN,

Been lurking for a long time finally decided it was time to join now that my hardware is together. Im a photographer and this will be primary a Photoshopping machine with a little gaming at the side.

Current specs
i7 920 D0
ASRock X58 Extreme
6GB of Corsair XMS3 1600
Prolimatech Megahalems w/ Coolermaster fan (push)
Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200 (Will be getting an Intel SSD in a few months)
eVGA 7800GT *yup yup I know...will be upgrading shortly, but I don't game much* The onboard fan is driving me nut as its the loudest fan in the case.
Antec 1200 case + 750watt Trupower PSU

Win7 Experience Index at 5.5 basescore at 2.6ghz
Processor 7.4
RAM 7.4
Graphics 5.9
Gaming Graphics 5.5
HDD 5.9

Win7 Exp Index at 5.6 basescore at 3.6ghz
Processor at 7.6
Ram at 7.6
Graphics 5.9
Gaming Graphics 5.6
HDD 5.9

Here are some specs from Realtemp with all fans on low in the case.
at stock speeds
Idle 35-38
Load 53-58

at 3.6 (Using ASRock's preset OC)
idle 37-43
0.944V Core Voltage
load 70-75
1.152V Core Voltage

Thermal paste was OEM Prolimatech and used the credit card smear method. I think I will try the rice grain in the center with OCZ Freeze
Load temps generated by Prime95 small FFT after 15mins

Ambient temps 23C

Hoping to drop the temps some more with OCZFeeze and single center dab method. Or would it be better to do AS5's horizontal line method? I'd be happy to drop all temps -5C or so.

any feedback is appreciated. I know from searching my numbers are a little on the high end. At load @ 3.6 I would hope to be around 60-70C. Hoping a remount will fix that.

This is a huge upgrade from my Pentium 4!

Nice rig man, quite the bottleneck with your GPU but you already know that. You should fill out all that info in the user CP. Welcome to the forums!

Just did...Thanks. Got a great price on the CPU from a relative at Intel. (50% off!)

If I don't game a lot, the GPU shouldn't bottleneck Photoshop though correct?

It might a bit since CS4 uses more of the GPU than previous versions which were more CPU intensive. I think you should be fine though.

Hello and welcome and enjoy your stay.

The windows index scores aren't really that important as it means nothing in the real world. I think ms just made to make you think you need to buy something better to get a higher score.
