Default General questions about DS, Carts, Games, Misc! (Come and take a look :))

Nintendo DS Wanted Thread

First thing's first: if I get a DS, I will most likely be getting a cart because so many people say it's awesome.
So with a cart, what features should I expect from one? What is a good cart that can do most of these features? I know I want one with a mini or micro SD slot.
I'm looking at the R4DS and an Ez-Flash 3in1 right now. But what about an M3DS Real with Rumble and GBA expansion pack? The bonus of the M3 Real is the ability to use larger flash memory cards.

What about homebrews? There are many for the PSP and everybody loves them, but what options are there for the DS? What functions are possible and which ones should I be looking for in a homebrew? Web browsing seems like a very important one, and media browsing (audio/video) would also be important some of the time, although I use my cell phone for audio too.

What about programming for the DS? It would be awesome to be able to create my own apps (like a simple GUI-based calculator, basic games, et cetera). I know some Pascal and a cut down version of Basic for the Texas Instrument graphing calculators. (TI-84+)

What are the good games out for the DS? I've never gotten into Final Fantasy simply because I was born at the wrong time, but FF3 and FF4 (just announced) would be good to get, right? Also lots of Mario games and a Zelda game (also one I've never gotten into).

well since nobody has answered, I've been researching the only cart I've heard about: R4DS.
Is there any way of getting a 4GB SDHC card to work on it? If there isn't, what are some good non HC Micro SD cards? How can you tell the difference?

CycloDS and R4DS are the best ones. Either one will do everything you'll need/want.. they're basically clones of eachother - the CycloDS running a bit more expensive for some extra features. I highly recommend you purchase your DS cart from http://www.realhotstuff.com/. I've ordered twice from them with fantastic results.

I'm probably not going to get the CycloDS because of the price tag.

there's also the m3, it supports gba games.
m4 is limited to 2gb however, while the new m3 can go 4gb,8gb etc.

not too sure about 4gb SDHC, but i am using a 2GB kingston SDHC. running smoth and flawlessly. some say that kingston works better with R4, but i haven't try with other branded SDHC.

is the m3 priced a lot higher than the r4? It may be worth it just to have 4gb, as flash cards are getting cheaper
the internet is saying that the m3 simply is the same as the r4 :\

I've got an M3 for my DS, I thought they were identical to the R4 aside from the name. Although mines almost broken, the catch that holds the sd card has broken so ites being held in with sticky tape. I'd be tempted to get a more expensive one if it breaks completely.

+1 for the r4. I ordered mine from nxpgame and it came in 3 days.

Anything over 2gb is disproportionally expensive.. And you're gonna wanna stick with Kingston cards made in japan. They work the best.

well what about this deal on the m3 real? Is it worth it compared to the R4? And what can I use the Slot-2 adapter for other than making backups of GBA games so I don't have to bring around all the cartridges?
