Any advice on a wii? - Overclock.net

Ok let me start out that the last console I bought was a PS2 when they first came out, I am a PC gamer these days. We are going to get a Wii for Christmas for the kids(age 4 1/2 and almost 2 years old). So I have a few questions:

1) What version of the Wii should I get
(there are a few bundles)?

2) How many and what controllers should I get?

3) Any good little kid games would be awesome to know?
(The kids really haven't played any games up to this point, but will catch on quickly)

4) Any games that would be good for the entire family?

5) Any games that I need to get for me?
(In the past I have played, racing games, Final Fantasy games, Dynasty warriors)

EDIT: Update: I bought the Wii, got a recertified from newegg on cybermonday for $139, also got wii sports, wii play, disney sing it pop edition, got two wii motes, 4xnunchucks, and a Wii Fit Plus w/board.

think any version should do as there really hasnt been any detrimental bugs with this system as opposed to that system. some good kids games r mario kart and the wii sports which it comes with, which r also good family games. some games that I enjoyed r star wars force unleashed, resident evil 4, mad world, zelda to name a few. enjoy it, i love my wii but ull find alotta ppl on here dont like it

Yeah well I am not a big wii fan due to it feeling like its aimed at younger kids. If I was buying for me it would be a PS3. The last new nintendo systems I owned we the NES and SNES.(N64 was terrible and I never bought another nintendo after playing a bit on that)

But the PS3 and Xbox360 really don't cater to the little kids. I found a couple of dora and diego games that are probably what I will grab, just have no clue if they suck or not.

I'm not to big of a wii fan and mine seems to be collecting dust, but I'll give my thoughts on it.

1) Sorry I can't help on bundles since I bought mine ages ago.
2) I think you should get 3 or 4 so you can do multiplayer and play with the kids.
3 + 4) Not sure about this either. However, I think many of the Mario games, like Mario Kart and Party, would be a pretty good choice for the whole family. The wii sports game that came included in mine was good for when friends and family decided they wanted to play with the wii.
5) Really I haven't played too many wii games, but I would recommend Twilight Princess (only if your a Zelda fan or else you probably won't like it), Resident Evil 4, and if your a Mario fan, Galaxy would be another good choice.

Honestly the game that gets the most play from my Wii is Rock Band 2 >.>

Stay away from Red Steel and other crap games like that, you may like Boom Blox, and I wanna get De Blob so you may look into those games, Rubix world is a nice party game too.

1. I would try to find some kind of bundles that includes the new Mario Bros/Mario Kart/Super Smash Bros bundle.

2. I would get at least one controller for each person you intend on playing the system. It is never fun to have to switch wiimotes back and forth between players. Just get four and not have to worry about this. I also suggest getting a wiimote charger so you don't run through zillions of batteries.

3. Boom Blox, Zak and Wiki (When the kids get a little older, its problem solving), Wii Sports Resort, Little League Baseball.

4. Smash Bros, Guitar Hero/Rock Band, Mario Party, Mario Kart. All of those will be good for family fun...

5. Zelda, New Mario Bros, Mario Galaxy, Resident Evils.
