**** I installed the vf900 and a decent hsi ship..
it gave me like 5 different beep errors on boot! I reinstalled the stock one, and now I'm fine!? I think this is because there was no fan spinning? is this possible?

I remember having the same kind of beeps on several occasions, and believe it or not it was an easy fix ( at least in my case). The beeps would come when I would forget to connect the power supply to the video card. The first time this happened to me I thought I had fried my card or something to that effect, but soon noticed that I had left the card unplugged. Once plugged it booted up just fine.
I have been able to effectively cool my BFG 7800gs using water. I made use of some water blocks made by Polar Flo TT. They fit quite well with some slight modding of the blocks themselves. I had to grind some of the edges of the block (not the actual copper but part of the brackets) so that the ram sinks would go on without a problem. While this hasn't helped me to gain more of an overclock (max stable clock w/o artifacts is 493/1400), it has stabilized my temperatures quite well. Last night while playing WTCC Race for a couple of hours, my core temp. never rose above 39C. My room ambient at the time was 32C. I have been able to eliminate the "cold bug" by changing the bios and flashing my card and have been able to run this card as cold as 8C (was porting cold air from outside during the winter time). My current setup is: P4 3.20E @ 3.90 GHz (FSB 244) (Max stability @ 4.19GHz/ FSB 260) Asus P4C800E Rev. 2 2 Gb OCZ PC3200 Gold EL (2.5/2/3/6) (@FSB 260 changes to 3/2/3/6) BFG 7800GS (493/1400) 160GB Western Digital Raptor ThermaleTake ToughPower 700 ThermalTake Kandalf Case 3x120 and 2x120 Black Ice Extreme radiators Swiftech pump, DD and Polar Flo water blocks |

Hrmm where are the PICS? I've got a eVGA 7800 OC (430/1300) and I'm looking to replace the stock HSF. But with what? So far I replaced the stock TIM with IC Diamond 7 and temps dropped noticeably... but one thing I'd point out is that on a few of the ram chips you'll need a thick thermal pad since eVGA was too damn cheap to build a HSF that actually fits FLUSH with ALL of the chips. They instead used some cheap arse THICK thermal paste/fabric glob... so there's NO contact with some of the RAM chips w/o it!

Back when I had my 7800GS, the stock fan broke so I had to replace it. I got a VF-700 CU and it worked wonders.

+rep ;-) I tried searching, but haven't found any indepth pics about retro-fitting an VF900 on the 7800... far as sinks, I've got a TON of spares from old dell pulls from work. Who says Dell's aren't good for anything? lol

Bumping this one back up!
It worked.. I had a vf900 on the g71 and a zalman nb cooler on the HSI chip! I just used 2 holes on the vf900. But it didn't fit 100% So I drilled out on arm of the vf900 mounting and used a new screw. Now it fits 100% and..... It works 100%!!! I'll post some pictures as soon as possible.

GRAVE DIGGER BUMP! Will someone please post pics of the BRACKET installation, what holes go where etc? I've got a 7800GS And I took off all that cloth junk and found that at least 2 of the sinks don't make contact with the stock cooler! I had to put an extra amount of paste (waste) and it's a sizable gap. I could just get a 900 and figure it out, but I'd still like to know how other's did it etc... Thanks
