Default VF900 and a 7800 GS

I just got my VF900 today and I was so happy. I spent an hour trying to figure out how to install this cooler on my card. Evenutally I figured out how to install the cooler using only 3 pins. I'm not totaly sure that it is seated all the way on the unpined side but it looks ok. My temps did go down a good 10C though.

I just thought I would warn you guys about this.

EDIT: Also the fan's 3 pin power connector doesn't fin in the cards 4 pin one.

I put the RAMsinks on the RAM but the system ram was blocking one of the RAM things so I had to take the RAMsink off. But I put it on the HSI Bridge.

I will take some pics tomorrow after my midterms.

I'm about to buy the same thing in a few days. Anyone know of any problems with it, and a XFX 7800GT? Thought I'd post it here, instead of making a new thread

That cooler will work perfectly well on that card. I have two of them on EVGA 7800gts, and they have dropped the average temp on the cards by ~25C while reducing the noise level. The only thing to worry about if you do SLI is whether or not you have enough space between the two cards; the cooler is a double slot cooler and the thumbscrews on the back stick out a lot. I ended up having to trim down the screws on a CNC lathe.

Actually the whole thing that happened to you is normal because 7800GS is not really supported by VF900 and you can see that if you go in zalman and check the compatibility. It says NVIDIA Geforce 7800 Series (except 7800GS) so yeah ^^;

So that means that you will not have a problem ^^

Also for the original poster. If i was you I would not use 3 of the pins but only two diagonally because the third one might pull the cooler to its side and raise it from the side that it doesn't have a pin but still if something like that happened I guess you could tell. Do not say it will not work good cause my X800 has only 2 pins to use and does a great work. Well thats only my suggestion.

Well unless it says it's not compatible, it'll work. If it can fit on an old 9x00 card, it'll definitely fit on a GT, GS, or GTX(except an G80, those things put out an assload of heat).

VF900 = win. Lowered my idle of 45 to 32 and load of 60 to ~40! Now I just need to get that conductive ink from Transonic.

It actually says its not compatible with the 9800GS. Actually no Cooling solution is compatible with it. Even silencer 5 or arctic which doesn't say in the main site that its not compatible... is not compatible and actually thats cause the HSI. Well as long as the poster did consider the HSI all are ok I guess but I do not think he should OC the memory of the GPU.

The 7800gs also has an HSI... but you can mount a northbridge heatsink on that
