__________________I have seen threads about people putting CPU HSF's like the scythe infinity on their 7900gt's amng other hsf's too lazy to find thread right now but it was real i realized the 8800GT uses the same mounting as the 7900 series i just bought a tuniq tower 120 to replace my scythe infinity do you think it would be feasible to mount the thing (infinity) on the 8800gt yes i would make sure the heavy hsf would be supported

Wouldn't your card just like...snap off of the mobo or warp it out of place? Mess up your mobo's PCI-E x16 socket?

the HSF would have to be supported somehow, otherwise, like swatsor said, it would probably snap off, horizontally or vertically oriented.

I use the VF900. Not the 1st choice for most people, but at least it won't snap the card in two. Have a look at what I did:

so spend $50 and get the thermalright hR-03 GT and mount a high CFM 90mm fan on it. That is not only extreme but it will actually work...

I don't know everything there is to know, but the idea seems feasable as long as it's well supported, which you've mentioned multiple times. It'd be a neat experiment to say the least. An... expensive... experiment.
