Default BFG 8800 GT with no ram or mosfet heatsink?

So I want to install my Zalman VF700 ALCU cooler on the crappy stock cooler, but I don't want to attach any heatsinks on the ram or VRM chips...

Do you think the fan will be enough to cool the ram and mosfet?

These 2 cards seem to be selling well even without the heatsinks

But the second Gigabyte card has the "Ultra Durable 2" capacitors ....whatever that is.

I will run it at 702/1674/987

Well what you can do is touch the RAM. If it feels really hot than it probably is. (it will get really warm, but if it gets.. like.. HOT, than no good.)

That's probably the best test to see if you need the ram chips or not. If they do burn, go for the heatsinks, if now, dont worry about it. Make sure its on load first :-D

Umm...is it just me or does that seem like a recipe for disaster to anybody else?

Don't stick your hand into your case when it's turned on.

Run ATI Tool's artifact scan for an hour or so and do as quick of a shut off as you can, take the side off of your case, touch the PSU to ground yourself, unplug it from the back of your rig and -then- place your finger on one of the memory IC's.

Don't risk getting a shock or bricking your card with some static discharge.

I've done it a million times. Yes it is possible to fry a component via static but.. unlikely. Just don't pet the family cat at the same time.

However, the best idea is to just get the ramsinks.

Agreed. I won't run a video card that doesn't have -something- on the IC's. It's a paranoia thing...much like not touching anything inside the case while it's on.
