I had to scrub my card down with hot water, dish soap, and toothbrush, hit it with WD 40, scrub, then wash the card with hot soapy water again, then I used an entire bottle of 91% isopropyl and a box of sterile medical pads on it. When I was done, it was much cleaner than when I got it, and that residue was finally, completely, gone. Persistent stuff I say.

When putting on my RAM sinks, I pressed down as firmly as I dared and held for a full minute. When they where all on I heated the card to about 170F with a hair dryer, and pressed down some more (wearing gloves this time). I can now pick up the entire card by any single ram sink (though you should probably avoid this).

I used a thined mix of AS thermal epoxy on the ram sinks that came with my S1 (after I cleaned and lapped them) to attach to the VRMs.

Right now my S1 (I have a rev 1, only the mounting bracket has changed) keeps my 8800GTS fully stable at the clocks in my sig, passively. With the case fans in my P182 set to medium, the card never makes it past the mid-60C.

I also removed those silly plastic things, and took a pen torch to any of the solder joints holding the fins to the heatpipes that where loose.

That's mesh reinforced thermal grease. It's pretty much a slightly thicker version of the white oxide pastes, but with an added mesh binding to hold it together as it has to fill a much larger gap than paste.

Ya... pain in the ass

I put some tx-1 on from my tuniq on the heatsinks to get it to stick...

Hope it continues to work the way its working right now because it's damn good performance atm.

It installed very easily for me, but then again I've been installing aftermarket coolers for some time now.

The trick with the clips is to put them on before you put all 4 screws in. If you follow the directions it works very nicely. Then just don't snap the clips all the way until you screw in the final two screws. Add some zip ties and a 120mm fan and you're all set

Slight de-rail.. What's the difference between the rev.1 and rev.2 coolers?
