Hey guys, been having some high temps on my GTX for about a week and a half now, 81 ish load and 65-70 idel, im planning on getting a 4XXX or next gen Nvidia card in the near future and i was just wondering if you guys thought it was a smart move to throw an after market cooler on it or not, and if so which one should i use?

Thanks in advance!

works on both. U need to find the right version though. I bought the one for 7 series cause it has 4 heat pipes and the one for 8 series only has 2 so i modded it.

Only difference is the Voltage regulators.

Those are not high temps for the 8800GTX with the stock cooler, even though they look insane. Once you go above 90 it's getting a bit too hot .

Mine currently rests at 40-something idle and reaches 65-67 under load. I had similar temps to yours with the stock cooler.

Going by how similar the 7 series look to the 8 series I hope I can transfer this one to any next generation card Nvidia throws at me without too much fuss. No assurances, though.

i understand that the Cards can take a large amount of heat but i have been noticeing some stuttering during games, ever since i noticed the heat that is. it seems like it skips 1 frame every 3 or so minutes, its nothing huge but i just started to notice it along with my temps so i am just wondering if the temps would be causeing it to do that

Just clean your card heat sink it's probably having a bunch of dust bunnies... normal load temps are around 80C. Idle anything between 45-60 is acceptable depending of airflow in ur case if you will be changing cards investing in a after market cooler is a waste of money...

I actually applied AS5 to my 8800GTX. Just take the heatsink off and put AS5 on the chip. Leave the heatpads on for the ram though. It helped a little for sure.

as far as dust goes theres none in my card, atleast that i can find, i took my 120PSI compressor and blew it out, everywhere i could, and i could see that some of the pads on the ram looked like they were lifting off so theres basicaly no thermal conductivity on those... but yeah.... as far as the AS5 goes, you just put it on the Core right?

yea a very small amount. Just make sure you clean off all the old thermal paste first.
