The DuOrb is good up until a certain point, then the heat put out by the cards passes the coolers threshold of being able to cool, and at that point the stock cooler even out performs it. Seeen this case a couple times..

Hr-03 GT is the best cooler, but if you want to be a bit more compact, then the VF1000 is a good bet.

Okay I looked it up:

"New video cards are constantly on the horizon. The most noticeable ones are the Nvidia G92 and the ATI RV670. Thermalright, of course, is right there again to welcome the new change of guard for extreme cooling and low noise. The new solution is HR-03 GT! HR-03 GT,using 6 heatpipes and a double sided heatsink base, can work with any 92mm low noise fan. So if you are not prepared for the onslaught of heat and noise stock coolers generate, get the new HR-03 GT!

HR-03 GT works with 9800GTX without buying PWM ram sinks separately.

Compatible Cards
Nvidia:6800/7800/7900 Series / 8600 GTS Series / 8800 GT 512MB 9800GTX Quadro FX5500
ATI:X1800 / X1900 Series"

What do they mean by "without buying the PWM ram sinks separately" does this mean i do not need the heatsinks for the memory on the card?

No, you still need them, it just means you dont need to buy any more than the heatsink comes with

It wont be massively huge, but there will be a little difference in favor of the HR-03. Just make sure you get a good 92mm fan on it, and make sure you have some flow in your case. Thats how I get such good temps, its the heatsink, and I have air flowing right over the card and being pushed out the back by other fans.

So the 92mm fan that attaches to it i should have pushing air out right?

I'd say you'd be just fine with the ThermalTake DuOrbs. They're compatible with the 8800GTS, and as Robilar said, as the 9800GTX is similar to the 8800GTS, it should work perfectly fine.

I'm not sure why your temps are so high though.

I have two in SLI and my temps are 43Cidle each card with the fan on 80% and they never exceed 55c load

The stock coolers are very good, (at least for me they work just fine.) Mine are overclocked to 800/2000/2350 and all I did was turn up the Fan Speed in RivaTuner
