Default 8800 GTS (G92) Thermal Paste

After I screwed up my PC this weekend I figured I'd take a close look at my VGA card and took the cooler cover off; G92 8800 GTS. I noticed nVidia made quite an intricate design for a stock cooler but they skimped on the thermal paste it seems. Is it worth taking the cooler off and replacing this crap tapelike paste with a high quality thermal paste? Would it make a worthwhile improvement?

i don't see it hurting any. you should def. see some temp improvement and more piece of mind.

Do it since you already have it apart.

I wonder why Nvidia and/or ATI hasn't come up with the idea of putting their GPUs in a heat spreader design like CPUs. Anyway, thermal paste is better then a thermal pad.

Do any of you guys know where to buy thermal pads that cover up the memory and voltage regulators that come with the stock coolers? I have to rma my card and I can't do it until I have the card exactly like it was, which means taking off my accelero and everything that came with it to make the card stock again. Any help with this would be highly appreciated.

I think I remember seeing some available at performance-pcs.com, but I dont know if they are the same ones that the GTS comes with stock.

I guess you're talking about these http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=1141

I'm thinking that if I buy enough of those and just replace everything on the card making sure everything matches then they shouldn't be able to tell a difference (and I'll make sure to do a crappy job, just so it looks the same as the way the factory put it together
