I've been pretty bored most of this summer, and have tried to come up with some fun little projects that unborify me, and benefit my computer, so I scheemed up this idea of putting the stock HS from my Q6600 onto my 7950GT, and it's taken me all day to do it, but I've dropped my load temps from ~83c to 72c (in Furmark).
__________________Unfortunately the only two pics I have are from a garbage camera, and they were taken after I finished. Materials needed: Intel HS Hacksaw Lots of skinny zipties 80mm fan (optional) First, take the fan part of the HS off, and hacksaw off the four little "legs" on the HS that hold the pins in place. Cut them so that the highest point on the HS is the middle copper circle. Also, I bent the fins of the HS in four different corners so the zipties had something to grab onto Be sure to wash off the HS after this because you may have some metal shavings on your HS. Second, I did all the normal HS changing stuff, like taking off the old HS and prepping the GPU core with some cleaner, put on some new thermal paste, and set the Intel HS on the GPU. Third, I ran the zipties over the HS like this: ![]() ![]() ![]() Then, I put the fan back on it, but not on all the way because it would hit the zipties. (Optional) You can also add an 80mm fan by ziptieing it through the ramsink holes. And after all that work you should have something like this (once again I apologize for the garbage camera): ![]() ![]() Edit: Yay. Some pictures from my iPhone (yes my standalone camera is crappier than the camera on my iPhone). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nah, I still need that for my CPU.

wouldn't have thought it was possible... great idea! +rep
seems that an "upside-down" mobo layout is the only way this would work, tho...

That's what the zipties are for. It may not be a thumbscrew mount, but it still holds it in place really well, even mounted normally (where the HS is on the bottom of the GPU).
