Specifically I want something that'll pull the air from my video card out the back. My 8800 never did run very cool even with my aftermarket cooler. It was high 50C's on idle and mid 60C on load. When I started folding, load went way up so I cranked the fan up and it dropped 5C or so so my GPU is still 50C idle and about 61C on load.
I was thinking of getting this, it has good reviews and is cheap. My video card just flings the air everywhere when my side panel is off and I can feel one of the side fans pulling nothing but hot air out so having something directly below my GPU cooler should help keep it moderately cool down there. AOC FC-2000 PCI Slot Case Cooler This looks pretty decent too. I would have to turn the fan around so it would actually suck air away from the GPU, but it sits farther in so it would actually do a better job me thinks. Thermaltake TMG SL1 A2414 80mm Blue LED Dual PCI Slot Fan Opinions?

Just bear in mind that your gpu fans pulls air inwards onto the core. putting a fan opposite it pulling air away could easily create a dead zone and actually raise temps.

Yeah that's true. Well I went ahead and ordered that Thermaltake SL1 fan along with a few other things from frozencpu since they were the only site that had everything I was looking for. So we'll see how it performs when I get it.

Well I got all the goodies today and one of them was the slot cooler. All I can say is it did its job right off the bat. I moved my sound card down to the last PCI slot so there was more room for the slot cooler to suck air in from and exhaust it, but it practicely sits right below my 8800GT. I thought it might create a dead zone like you had mentioned, but so far it's actually dropped my temps 5C and still dropping!
![]() Mind you, I have my computer laying sideways on the ground inbetween my feet because I had installed a southbridge copper cooler with thermal tape, so I'm letting that cure for a few days(recommended about 100 hours) and not run the risk of it falling off because I only used thermal tape because I didn't want to remove the existing cooler with the heatpipe running up and next to the CPU. SO ANYWAYS, this slot cooler is amazing. When I booted up the computer and brought up GPU-Z after a few minutes, the idle temp was only 45C! Usually it's 49-50C. There was no drop with a low or high speed fan on idle. When I started the folding client at low fan speed, I gave it a good few minutes and it rose up to only 59C opposed to 64-65C on low. I cranked the fan all the way up and it is sitting at a nice 55C on load. Normally it was 59-60C before the slot cooler. Now mind you, it could be because the side is off and my computer is laying differently than it normally is, but I honestly don't think that is changing anything at all. I know it didn't make a difference when I was testing the GPU fan speed when I started folding a few weeks ago. I did turn one of my side fans around to blow air directly at the GPU to give it something to breath with as I feel the slot cooler can easily replace that fan as an exhaust. Not to mention I've got 3 new rear panel slot inserts with grills in them now. ![]()
