Not sure if anyone had noticed or not, but the EVGA Akimbo cooler for the 8800 GT is back in stock.

Does anyone own one of these or know of anyone who does and if so, are they ny quieter than the stock 8800GT cooling, also, will I be able to knock up my memory frequency to 1ghz without crashes?

for the price, I would stick with an aftermarket cooler... something like the Arctic cooling Accelero S1 Rev.2, or the Duo-Orb will cool much better, and is around the same price

bluedevil has one. 1Ghz on the memory is a limitation on the memory it self.

That depends. That price is about £20 for me at the moment. The Artic Accelero is £18 plus £8 for the fans, not including delivery. That makes it over £50 to suit up my 8800GT's

Aye, but the Akimbo models come at 2ghz stock. If I OC my RAM to 1ghz (2ghz) I get almost insta-BSOD

Very wrong, the Akimbo is a very good after market cooler that doesnt look horrible (duorb) and doesnt require the use of extra huge fans. The akimbo is also quiter than the Accelero with a fan on it.

Just ordered 2 more for my current rig.

well, i admit the duo-orb does look bad, but it does cool a noticable amount better than the akimbo... I also don't agree with the noise issue.. the accelero can perform around the same passively compared to the Akimbo, trust me, I've owned both... and the extra fan that you can buy for the accelero is practically noiseless... you can't hear it... the akimbo is not as bad as the single slot, but crank it up to 40-60% and its definitely audible
