Default Overheating graphic cards.

Hi guys,

There seems to be more and more threads and posts in here relating to overheating cards. I see some advice stating make sure airflow is Ok, etc etc. However, when all is said and done, I've read on a lot of PC sites that Nvidia are having a real problem with the chips they have ben pumping out over the last year and apprently they have no real answer yet. The cards being replaced under warranty are being replaced with the same product i.e same unmodified chips. Their budget for warranty replacements reportedly will not cover the amount of cards being returned at present.

My GTX260 overheated five weeks ago now, my case has plenty of room, has good ventilation, is situation with the rear away from a wall and with the side of the case drawing cool air from the outside of the house via some ducting I connected up and hung out of the window like an old aircon system. This was all over the cooler evenings so the outside air temp was anywhere from 9 - 18 degrees, plenty cool enough air going through my case, yet my card still went over 110 degrees.

I'm considering asking for a refund and going over to a 4870 knowing that it will at least run and not overheat.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

There were issues, bad mounts, bad TIM application or whatever the root cause might be.

My replacement 260 runs up to 40°c cooler than my first one. Same case, same room temp, same settings.
I would bet your replacement will be just fine.
Sucks they've had your card for so long.

LOL grunion,

We stalking each other LMAO, good to hear that mate, I'm hoping to get my card back soon. I've just got hold of Frontlines, Hells Highway, Bioshock and Assassins Creed, got CoD5 coming soon.

Thanks again
