x2 is better than a GTX280, but the 280 is still a good card

The Thermalright HR-03 GTX will "NEED" a cooling fan per the Thermalright install instructions. It is not an option.

That's your only option other than waterblocks.
No SLI support.

But how loud is that stock fan? By him asking if he needed to put a fan on the HR-03 GTX I assume he is looking for something quiet that offers good performance.

I think the P5Q-E only supports crossfire anyway. I don't know if you were referring to the board or the heatsink though I don't see any reason that the heatsink would not work with SLI. All you need is a flexible SLI bridge to get around the cooler, and a big case.

Would there be enough room room in between cards? Large case is already taken care of. I could careless about the P5Q-E.

The New Thermalright HR-03 GTX is specifically made for Nvidia GTX 280 and GTX 260 due to the difference in location of the mounting holes compared to other video cards. Engineered with 6 quality heatpipes for maximum amount of heat transfer to work with 120mm*25mm fan for best configuration to suit your needs (fan is necessary but model chosen is optional below). Even though the numbers of module are different on the GTX 280 and GTX 260, the fixture holes are the same on both types, so rest assured that the VRM heatsink can be installed on either one. Due to the excess amount of heat dispersed from the VRM components, sufficient cooling airflow to it is a necessity. Type 1 method would put the fan in the back of the video card thus preventing the airflow to properly cool the VRM and overheats as a result. Therefore, only Type 2 installation method (entire heatsink and base on top of GPU) is recommended. The HR-03 GTX calls for a 120mm fan and takes up 4 PCI slots. The HR-03 GTX can only be installed in single card method. It will not support SLI or Cross Fire.

per Thermalrights website and Faqs, they're not SLI compatible; Stock air is the only option it seems right now.
