Default Which cooler for evga 8800GTX

i am in dire need of another cooling solution cause im loading at 80C while folding w/ fan speed at 100%.

so its a decision between a ZALMAN VF1000 and TT Duorb. idk if they'll work or not, but i'd like to keep it under $45 shipped.

links/other suggestions always appreciated!

1. Thermaltake DuOrb!

2. Alternately, use RivaTuner and create fan profiles to cool the GPU(s) as it increases in temp.

3. Mod your case and insert a 120mm fan to exhaust the GPU heat directy out of the case. Refer to my Sig for the Mod instructions.

4. All of the above.

Well, the Thermalright HR-03 is basically the best cooler, but it is around $50 w/o shipping. The duorbs work GREAT for my 8800GT, but I have heard that the GTXes get hotter than the GTs and the duorbs do not work as well on them (though still better than stock ). If you go with the zalman VF-1000, I have heard people say to buy some of these RAMsinks as they cool better (this is optional). Either way, get some Arctic Silver 5 to replace the stock thermal paste. If you are not gonna OC that GTX a lot, I would say get the duorbs and save $10.

I am also looking for a cooler for an 8800gtx card, however the HR-03 plus does not seem to be available anywhere. Is it possible to mod another version of the HR-03 to fit?

I am using TT DuOrbs, and I don't recommend them at all.

I am hitting 105 degrees in an SLI set up. Best advice, take the cards apart and apply AS5, dropped the temps way more than the DuOrbs could. I have 11 120mm fans with 2 120mm fans cable tied together sitting next to the two cards and with the DuOrbs on they overheat insanely.

Not having any exhaust is a really bad idea, especially on the 8800's they generate a lot of heat from my experience.

I just wish I hadn't damaged one of the stock fans on my slave card when taking them apart, I have stock cooling on the top card, and a DuOrb on the bottom, and it's still hitting 100 degrees at times. While the stock cooler with AS5 is hitting 80 degrees max, which is the lowest temp I can manage with my cards.

*edit* I see you are using SLI, all the DuOrbs will do is suck up heat from the card below and get hotter and hotter I have fans everywhere and the side of the case off, and I could still boil a kettle on both of the cards with those heatsinks on!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT. THE DIRECT CONTACT COPPER HEATPIPES ARE VERY GOOD AT TAKING HEAT OFF THE G80 PROCESSOR.

Its like a match made in heaven

I have one of those just sitting brand new in its box after i realized it wouldn't fit on my 8800GT because Zotac is retarded and decided to make their card different from any other 8800GT. another negative about it is you cannot SLI with the cooler as it will take up 3 slots.

Surprised you'd still want to take your GTX that far. Still a nice card after these years.

+1 I tried these on my 8800GTX and to put it simply, the TT DuOrbs are just *not* designed for the Integrated HeatSink that comes stock with the G0 8800GTX ... however for all other 8800 GTS / GT and even the 9000 series they are a GREAT++ cooler, lol.

Now, that being said, if anyone has an HR-03 PLUS (not GT or REV.A) that would like to sell it - or even consider a swap for a TT DuOrb if they've upgraded to a new card anyways, send me a PM... these are pretty hard to come by these days and I'd love to get one back for my 8800 GTX if anyone's willing.
