Default Temp incrase with artic silver on 260.

I jut put on some arctic silver on all the parts that need it and my temps went up. I only put enough so that I couldn't see the bottom, should I put more or is there another problem?

*sorry for misspelling the title*

Did you use iso alcohol and coffee filter to clean off the old stuff properly. Make sure your heatsink is aligned properly. Also maybe lint got into it before you put it on. Ps thin layer that is almost see through, spread with a credit card or something like a gift card on the big core. Make sure you dont touch those little memory chips though, there hard to use as5 right on.

Less is more with thermal compound, meaning you want to use as little as you can while covering the entire surface of the heatsink. It sounds like you may have used too much. Can you describe or show a picture of how you applied the compound?

So you covered the entire die with the compound before seating the heatsink? Because if you did, then you certainly used too much. Check Arctic Silver's webpage for instructions on installing on a CPU familiar to you, and try to scale the amount of product for the size of your GPU die.

No I put about 2-3 grains of rice. Well it seems to be folding at 75-76 100 fan speed but furmark just went up to 89 then crashed, Used to max at about 81, If that helps.

You had me scared there, friend! I had this image of my sister putting four packets of frosting on one toaster strudel...

I'm not sure which card you are working with, so I can't say precisely what the correct amount is. We will certainly try to help out if you can give us some more information.

Oh, and remember that it takes about 200 hours of use for Arctic Silver 5 to "cure" or break in. What kind of temperature difference are you seeing?

Lol

Just edited last post

Yeah but the furmark thing scared me ....Well hopefully the cure should take more than the 3c I hear about. Maybe it was just furmark?

I haven't tried any graphics intensive games yet besides wow which seemed to gain a 7-10 bump up.

If you're running a GTX 260, your temps are pretty high if it hasn't been overclocked at all. Check and make sure all of your heatsinks are seated properly, and if that doesn't help, then reapply the thermal compound and use a bit less.
