Exclamation XFX 8600GT XXX Running HOT!!!

Okay, so I have a HP Media center pavilion with the stock case and internals. I added the 8600gt XXX edition and don't usually have problems with chugging or freezing or anything like that. But when I check my temperature while playing, its usually at 100+ degrees celsius! It idles at around 65 degrees. The case is pretty compact so i'm sure that is the reason, but is there anything I can do to cool this thing off?? I want it to at least last until I can afford a new case and PSU

Install some case fans if you can to increase airflow. Also, download a program like rivatuner to up the fan speed on the card.

You're going to want to turn the fan up

How's your cable management in your case? If it's messy, clean it up to improve airflow

I don't believe you can control the fan speeds for this card, AFAIK it kicks up or down automatically. When I change the speeds in RT, even if you put your head next to the case vents, you don't hear any fans changing

Take the shroud off the card attach some 80mm fans, it's drastic but it works

Do you have a link to the card?

If card's speed changes automatically, then there is a way to control it. Try using EVGA Precision (it works on any NVIDIA card).

Here is a link to the card. It is the first card in the list, ending in UDD3.
http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/g...es/8600GT.aspx

I'll try downloading the EVGA app

Hmm. I have the same card and mine was at 50Cidle, 70C loaded. Taking the shroud off and adding another fan or getting some better case airflow would be an easy fix.
You could also try replacing the thermal compound - the stock stuff is is some cheap silicon crap.
I wasn't able to change the fan speeds at all... It was always on for me. I also ended up completely replacing the cooler which dropped temps a TON.
Good luck with it!

I guess I need to try to tidy up the case. But It's such an odd design because of the Personal Media Drive bay that comes with it. Just blocks away all the open space and leaves little room to work with. I will try and post a picture for better reference. I haven't done much to a PC besides hardware installations, Not too sure how/where to install case fans

Well I cleaned up the cables in the case, dusted the inside, and all the fans... including the GPU fan. Now my PC idles at about 57-58 degrees, which is a hell of alot better than the 75-77 degrees I was idling at before. After a few hours of constant Left 4 Dead though, it sometimes gets up to 85 degrees. Are there any VGA slot cooling fans that I could use. Or any other recommendations?
