Default Odd temperatures with DuOrbs

So installed my DuOrbs today.... and I think somethings wrong...

This can't be right can it?

A 24c difference on the core and 14c on ambient temps.

These temps are under load so don't worry. :P

Whats wrong? Did I seat the DuOrb wrong or something? I also added a fan to the side of the cards but it makes no difference what so ever. Could it be that there is some TIM on the heat sensor?

I'd probably reseat the one with higher temps and make sure you have just enough TIM and all that stuff. It is totally possible that one card stays hotter just because of the position in your case but if that was the case I would think the difference would be alot smaller.

I both did them at the same time, I put near I identical the same amount of TIM on both. I'm using AS5 that I still had laying around. :P

BRB I'm going to take it out and reseat it.

I put a DuOrb on my 8800GTS and it was worse than the stock cooler, WAY worse. Stock would hit ~80C running 3dmark, and DuOrb went above 100C. I hope this is a new and improved version.

Did you apply the AS5 as shown here? http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

Or like this? http://www.arctic-cooling.com/downlo...mx2_retail.pdf

Smearing the TIM around creates air pockets that cause the TIM to be less efficient. It's best to put TIM on as a dot on or a line across the chip and let it spread itself out as you push on the heatsink. An "X" pattern works quite well also. I would suggest trying a few and remove and clean between each to see which works best. You don't want extra TIM to be oozing out the side because that can collect heat and work against you.

Is the DuOrb one speed fan, or is it variable? If it's variable, and you plugged it into the card, then the card might be setting the fan speed down.

Its a molex. So its connected directly to the PSU... I do have a converter and a fan speed controller on their way.

Alright... I reseated it... and its load thems are now 56c with open case... I'll close it and report back.

I might also reseat the other one... seeing I did both the same.

EDIT: Holy smokes! The temps just sky rocketed from 59 to nearly 90!

Yep, it's your case. That sucks, the Sonata is a nice looking case.

I know... but ive been going crazy with my plastic these days...

Subwoofer? *swap* Receiver? *swap* 32" HDtv? *swap* 2nd 8800GTS? *swap* New cooler for your Gfx cards? *swap* and so on...

Thank god I actually got a car for free. xD

Anyways... I put a 120mm fan on the back of GFX cards to suck hot air out and another one to push the hot air out. Fold temps are now 62c.

To bad these things are ****ing loud! Everyone said they were quiet. Ah well... I got adapters and a fan controller on their way.

So I guess quiet doesn't go with cool + performance unless you have a good case with Noctuas.

Nuctuas are also on their way. xD

Next case will probably be a NZXT Whisper. I didn't hear any complaints about them.
