Default 8800GT Temp Worried

Alright, My 8800GT is running at load at 80, From my old temps were that it didn't even break 70. XFX exchanged me for a heatsink that could be lowered (fan speed) but now I'm in a new room and I could have it loud as I want but the down side was i had to set it every time, so I just put back on the old heatsink that was always at 100% speed. Thats when I started to experience the heat. I reseated it atleast 6 times and even got new thermal paste

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0Paste%20antec

It still runs hot, should I get it RMA'd

or is there something else I should try before?

OH I also forgot to mention that I have a big fan on it and I've had it on the card before the heat ups.

(XFX 8800GT)

Thats not really that hot. GPU's can handle a lot higher temps than CPU's. Might wanna check the air flow within your case and do some cable management.

If I am understanding correctly, you have also switched rooms that your rig is kept in?

Is the new room warmer? Probably a bit moot as 80C is on the warm-side, but still within specified operating temperatures.

Is it safe to assume that you have fully tightened the HS against the PCB?

I screwed the HS as hard as it would allow.

I'm actually in the living room now which is a more cooler room since the front door is in the room and its pretty cold out.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Its also on the floor where the cool air would be at.

Have you got any old CPU HSF's lying around? Because some people have been getting crazy temp drops using them on their GPU's.

Yeah I have a little 120MM fan that was on my junk computer's P4 at 2.6GHz

How will I go and mount this.

I am wondering why I'm getting such high temps. when my gcard goes to 70I get nervous because I've heard that around that temp the quality of performance deteriorates and so does the life.

Some people have mounted with Elastic bands and that worked some used zip ties and that also worked some even screwed holes in the PCB and that worked and some used ahot glue gun. It's up to you which one you choose. Also I take no responsibility if you screw this up!

I'm thinking about just using the old heatsink that xfx gave me to mod. and just take the cover off and use it.
