First post so please bear with me,
__________________I've recently purchased a Gigabyte gtx 260 GPU. As I type this post the card is just as I purchased it, no overclocking. The card however has been running pretty hot(80-88 Celsius) , idle temperatures are not that assuring either ranging between 49-58. Ambient temperature is 29 C. My questions are : 1) Is the airflow in the case responsible (I have a Gigabyte 3DAurora)? The remainder of my pc components are running much cooler CPU idling at 28C and loading at 43(If heavy processing). 2) If the airflow is responsible, is it wise to install a 120 mm case fan right under the gtx 260 fan to pump more air to it? If not please do point out any possible solutions. Many thanks in advance,

First of all go here and add your system specifications: http://www.overclock.net/specs.php?do=addsystem
What are you using to read your temperatures? That's a bit extreme even in a 84 F environment. Yes, 84 ambient is hot.. but it shouldn't be kicing u your temps to 80 C under load stock. I have never loaded over 53 C in games and 65 C with stress testing, overclocked. Room temperature is unknown.. just warm enough for a thin jacket. Edit: I forgot to mention this is with the fan at 40%.

To start out with, your ambient temperature is pretty hot, so that could be contributing to your problems in part.
__________________Next, the fan speed on that card is locked at 40% unless manually adjusted; it does not throttle up as load and temperatures increase like some cards do. To correct this problem, download EVGA Precision, then set your fan speed to 70% or higher. This will move more air through your card and increase cooling considerably. As to your idea of installing a fan under the card, it's a pretty good idea. My temps went down about 11C with this mod. Let us know how things work out for you!

Also @ Kremtok, the fan was @ 85% using Rivatuner when the load temperatures were recorded through HWMonitor, I had to do that to prevent crashing..

Hello, i have a xfx gts 250 512 MB, my room temperature is 30º C, and when GPU temperaure gets to 80º C in Call of duty world at war, the video card fan goes to full speed and the card stop giving video signal. Then i thought it was power supply, but i took from internet the program to put fan speed manually and put 100% (maximum speed), go into call of duty and it delays a lot, but finally crush, but i didn´t record the temperature, i suppose it was on 80º C again, i´m going to check it today. Iit doesn´t look like power supply because the fan is in 100% speed since i enter the game. Does the video card is factory adjusted to automatic stop video signal above 80ºC? i don´t think so
Please help... Thank you. |
