from my experience, even if you overclock it, it wont run any hotter. my 8800GTS 512MB was like this and the 9800gx2 is like this and the performance gain was still there. even at stock clocks mine still goes to 80 degrees underload. it just wont go any higher due to GPU voltage i think. I don't know why this is its just my observation with my card.

i think removing the shoud will help a bit. i wouldnt say as far that it would hinder it at all, but give it a try and see what happens.

I already own a HR-GT03 (For the 8800gt,x1950xt, hd3850, hd 4850, etc) Does the 9800gx2 have the same heat sink pin out? If it does I would def grab another HR GT and post the results.

i'm sure it does, but dont rely on what i say because i have no idea
ask someone with more exp with it :P
buuut, if it does, that would be cool to see someone finally do double heatsinks wrap around opposite sides of the cards
like, one wrap around above the top card, one wrap below the bottom card

I'd be worried of temps on the inside between the PCBs though. Probably fixable by sticking one or two fans in there but I don't think anything other than the GPUs would run cooler.
