Default iandh ramsinks and TIM: opinions needed?

I have (in the sig rig) a Zotac G92, I just installed a Duorb and a set of iandh sinks yesterday.

The thing is, I didn't have any TIM pads, just AS5. So I sparingly put some AS5 on the mem and vrm's, I noticed theres not great contact between them and the iandh sinks though. There's still a bit of a gap. I'm trying to get the best heat transfer here to really push the OC.

My question is: would it be better to rob a few of the stock TIM pads off the stock cooler and put them between the mem/vrm's and the iandh sinks or just keep the AS5 on there? Also, the iandh sinks screw/bolt on. They don't just 'stick' on

If you're trying to get the best heat transfer, I'd go with the pads.

you can put a tiny drop of super glue on each corner of the vram, and a drop of TIM in the center. Center the ram heatsink on it, then push and hold for a good minute, and repeat with others. Its what I do with my vram heatsinks, and it seems to do a better job that the pads.

I'm sorry, but I'm definitely not superglueing the sinks on,lol. The iandh sinks bolt on anyway (See attached pic)

Dont re-use the old pads, for one you may get small air pockets which will negate what your trying to do and secondly they may not hold.

AS5 is not an adhesive and they will come off, slide or generally move around.

If you not into superglue, you can either get new pads and cut to size or as some people had done (Im one of them)... use a small, repeat small, piece of blue tac.... works for me.

Let us know which path you choose.

I'd go with the pads.

They will ensure good contact with minimal pressure (and therefore less PCB warpage) and the reduced thermal conductivity vs. TIM won't hurt like it would on a CPU or GPU core.

Hey ho-bag....

I adore my iandh sinks as well. I find it odd that you're having a contact issue though. Mine make contact perfectly, and I use MX-2, although I'm wanting to purchase some more ICD7 and use it instead.

Is it evenly not making pressure everywhere or is it one or two pushing it up too high? Why would the manufacturer make their RAM uneven? That's so odd to me.

But Ian said it best. If your stuff is uneven, you'd be wise to purchase to some brand new pads and use them.
