Default 8800GTX Stock Cooler vs Xigmatek Battle Axe

Anyone know which one is better? The Battle Ax wasn't as good as my x1950XTX's stock cooler, but is it better than the GTX stock cooler? I just had GRID crash earlier today because of a "Driver Failed to Respond" message or whatever you typically get when trying to OC, and I was still at stock speeds, so I was just wondering if the Battle Axe is better. Even at 100% fan speed the GTX is still close to silent, too.

Battle AX is not an epic cooler but it is better then the stock cooler for the 8800gtx ( I assume you are using reference cooler right?).

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coo..._10.html#sect1

Modded with two fans it performed 8C cooler then the stock 8800gts cooler on idle. Not to shabby at all.

The battle axe should be better then the stock cooler, just remember i think it takes like 3 slots up though. Reminds me that i have a new in the box battle axe in my closet that wont fit my 8800GT because zotac is retarded and made their card different.

Here you go.

Compared to stock 8800 GTX, Xig Battle-Axe does wonders for load temps.

Yea its big, I've actually got it sitting in my room but I haven't gotten around to installing it on my 8800 ultra yet, rather busy.

Definitely not something for 8800 gtx/ultra sli set ups though.

I bought Arctic Cooling Xtreme 8800. Its SLI compatible, and its simply amazing. With fans running at fixed 1400rpm (60%), its fairly silent. My temps on reference 8800GTX @stock speeds - 40idle and 55 playing Crysis warhead maxed (after 2hours checked with gpuz log).
Cant think of anything better for this card.

That sounds awesome, what kinda temps were you getting before with the stock cooler? Currently running an 8800GTX I'm usually 55-60 idle at room temp and up to 70~ on load. Those temps with the Xtreme 8800 are bliss.

Finally got Battleaxe installed. Damn the thermal tape that came with the ram heatsinks is worthless. I knew about this problem already so I tried warming them up before attaching the heatsinks to the ram chips (as some people suggested). Needless to say two heatsinks fell of when I was installing the card so I had to go back, strip all the crappy thermal tape of the heatsinks and reapply 3M thermal tape that I bought just in case.

Before with stock heatsink
675 / 1566 / 1146
Idle - 50C
Load - 68C games ( 78C - 80C AtiTool / Furmark stress testing)

With battleaxe installed using OCZ Freeze Extreme as TIM and fans to max
675 / 1566 / 1146
Idle - 42C
Load - 59C - 60C Atitool!

Haven't tried gaming yet but Im sure Crysis temps wont ever get close to Atitool temps. I was hoping that the HDT heatpipe design of the battleaxe would work really well with the huge g80 chip IHS and it really did. Dropped about 20C load temps.
