I got this and i havn't messed with the fan settings i just know it runs at about 40% fan speed by default.
__________________Now i was playing mirrors edge for few hours and my pc bsod'd with the nvidia driver and when it rebooted vista logged that a video hardware error occured, does this mean that it has overheated? Has anyone got any cooling tips for to keep my gtx 260 maxcore overclocked and a minimum heat, fan increase could be one but what tools you recommend? evga precision tool or..? i would want something really simple and effective to control fan speed if thats a way to decrease heat. I do have a overclocked q6600 3.0ghz in there and i read that some people are having gtx 260 overheat issues with a q6600 3.0ghz overclock, can this cause the gpu temp to go up? it shouldn't, should it? Any tips please! ![]() matt.

EVGA Precision would be the best bet, simple and easy to use. Turn the fan speed up a little. But if you BSOD due to NVIDIA driver issue, try a change in drivers, usually a Overheating does not give you a BSOD, (i think?) Also, Could get a fan to blow on the card, and help temps. But I think it's more of a Driver problem.

I think it JUST hit over, because my screen lost its signal for a second, then it back back on and instantly BSOD my pc, i think what happened is the card overheated, shut down and rebooted itself then the nvidia driver didnt know how to handle that and caused a BSOD?
__________________Thats what im guessing happened to be honest. i am trying the beta drivers now. Got a question though if i turn off auto on the precision tool and crank it up, this won't stop the gpu from controlling the speed if it does get too hot from putting it on 100% if needed?

You can monitor your temps in-game, with the EVGA precision tool as well. If you turn off auto, and crank it up, it will stay at whatever you have it set at.

It was a fresh install, could of been a driver issue, just me been unlucky, im using the beta drivers now and i think i should give them a test.

You should try logging temperatures and fan speeds (Rivatuner can do this) to see what is going on while you game. Your card should be able to run with the factory overclock with the fan set to AUTO without overheating. If it does overheat, typically it is one of three reasons.
1) GPU fan and/or heatsink clogged with dust (not in your case since you just got it) 2) In-case temperatures too high (your case seems fine for ventilation) 3) Fan not automatically ramping up in speed (I've seen this happen when some GPU utilities are installed, such as NVIDIA System Tools). Alternately there is something else going on, such as a driver issue (have you installed motherboard chipset drivers?).
