Now, I appriciated your comments in my review laurie, but what happened since last time? I seem to recall your vrm temps being higher than comfortable with this new cooler. You said it practically didnt cool your vrms at all. Well, I tried both with vrm cooler and without, and there was no increase in temp when taking it off. This, coupled with the fact that I have a fan blowing directly at the hs, is in my opinion alarming. Did you ever try to really push the card by using furmark. The higher the temps, the greater the difference.

Considering the stock cooler is about 40 times the mass, it should logically absorb much more heat.

PS. To JoeC: Personally I think you DO have to mod for it to be proper. This is individual, as people have different requirements of how sturdy things should be and so on. I would prefer that my heatsink is keeping together (as in not falling to pieces) when I want to move the pc cabinet. I see NO way that my accelero would stay in one piece when mounted straight out of the box. I have been through this process with three cards before, and I NEVER had any similar problems. One simply cant claim there is no need to mod it as there is quite a few of us who felt the need to do that. That said, I think the cooler is so good that its worth it in my opinion.

You seem to think that everyone will have the same experience as you?
However you did say you had greasy feeling modules.

The temps I posted in your thread were 8-10 c hotter yes.
This was right after installation.
Over time the temps have dropped and are now the same as they were with the stock cooler. In the 80s.
Please dont tell me I am misleading people by sharing my experience.
If that is your logic then you are also misleading them.
I am insulted.

Just ran one loop on 3d mark 06.
Looks like the temps have gotten even better!
Now a lot cooler than the stock heatsink.
It took me a few seconds to cut the shot.
The temps on the vrms peaked at 62.
This is with a large OC too
Not sure what else I can say.

I've searched the site for this cooler and found that it will work with the gtx260 (216),
but on another thread people are stating that unless you use epoxy for the VRM's? those HS included with this cooler don't stay on very well?
I would love to pick this up for my card, I'm just a little unsure of it as the complaints from other people are bothersome.

Chris Ihao: Thank you for your input.

I do like what this cooler has to offer.

I guess it just comes down to a judgement call for me.

Thanks again.

Then I am sorry. Having re-read your previous comment, I see I totally misread it. I jumped the gun and somehow read that there generally is no need to mod the cooler, but now I see you basically say that YOU had no need to mod it. Obviously its not my place to deny that. I have the right to be sceptical though.

I am not speaking only on my own behalf though. There are many others who have experienced the same thing as me. My intention is to warn people that this can be a problem, as I very nearly got badly burnt by this myself.

The guy I link to in on the front page of my review (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showth...84#post1282484) did also do some extensive testing with different setups, and never got nowhere close to 80c. Even if I stopped using furmark, because of unrealistic heat compared to games, who knows if these temps will come up in overseeable future? I would rather be safe than sorry, and I mainly want to warn people about potential meltdown during heavy benching/testing.

Most importantly: As i were typing this apology/response I saw your update. Its no wonder how you get lower temps than me/others. Look at the VDDC current in your gpu-z. Its 16.9 A. I am currently running ati tool cube, and for me its constantly between 53-55 A. You know this have a great impact on heat, right? If this is what you have used before, its no wonder you didnt get the same heat as me/others.

Frankly, I'm not out to insult anyone here, but I think you should use properly heat-building software. 3dmark06 is absolutely not representative of modern games at all, so this is quite irrelevant regarding the issue of overly hot vrm's.

Anyways. Peace to you Laurie, and again I'm sorry for my potentially offensive phrasing.

Could you link me to the correct program and I will bench it.
The VDDc you see has dropped since the bench was running so it was not at 16 all the way through. It was around 45-50 and peaking at 60ish.
Just LMK what I need to do to stress it properly.
No worries BTW. You just seemed to jump on me!
Laurie.

Here we go.
I have not ran ati tool with the stock heatsink so can't compare.
It peaked at 100c
Playing crysis or Farcry2 It never went above 80.
With the stock one it did.

Ok laurie! Then we agree on most things. Probably your original cooler had a bit bad contact with the vrms. Ati tool cube (while spinning) is a great refrence. Some games, like Stalker: Clear sky, are very shader and gpu heavy, and therefore put quite some load on the vrm's. I dont like them going up to 100c, but thats personal I guess.

Glad you accepted my apology, as I actually rarely jump the gun like that.

Have a nice day/night man.

Edit: Using rivatuner hardware monitor, its easier to take snapshots of specific peak points in longer term benching/testing. You just hold your mouse cursor over the graphs, and info for all graphs at that specific time is shown (this also applies to gpu-z, but only one graph at a time). Just a tip

Sure no problems.
The cube did stress it a lot more as you said.
I wish I had chance to test the stock heat sink with it too.
I do not fancy putting it back on though. Especially since my temps are all pretty good.
I did get the VRM sink from thermalright and might give it a go at some point.
My core clock is running at 759 and still the temp is around 40! If only they had a proper sink for the vrms that worked for everyone and could be screwed down they would have a very very good product.
As it is I think its very good though.
Especialy if you consider a lot of cards dont cool the vrms at all!
The 4870 hd my friend bought didn't even have ram cooling?
