Hey, did you get it to fit? I just got mine in the mail and after removing the stock cooler I found that this does not fit on my gtx 285. After I found out it did some checking up and found that it doesn't fit on some of the PCB's that a few manufacturers use. Tbh I think the information regarding this over at the artic cooling website was very lacking. Also the store I bought it from had it listed as compitable with 285. So I really had no reason to think it wouldn't fit. big dissapointment.

Well Now that I have it anyway I was thinking that it couldn't be to hard to adapt it to the 285 anyway, just have to cut some of the heatsinks to fit.

Anyone tried to adapt this to the 285 got any tips??

(sorry for the bad spelling, I was in a hurry)

It fit on my 285 just fine, and I don't see why the main cooler it self would not fit on any 285, unless you have a radically changed PCB design.

What exactly is preventing you from mounting yours?

The cooler itself fits, it's just the ram/volt regulator heatsinks that don't. don't know how important it is to have those mounted?

If you force fan speed to 80-100% (still almost dead silent on the GTX 280 cooler(, it's not absolutely necissary, but still highly recommended.

This is my RAM/FET sink setup:

Only one of those sinks came with the AC GTX 280 cooler.

If I don't OC it and just want a silent cooling on it, could I get away with mounting the cooler without some of the heatsinks, and if so witch parts could I try not to put sinks on.
I saw that the stock cooler didn't have any extra heatsinks on the volt regulator.
I don't have any spare heatsinks lying around so I'd have to cut the big one that came with the kit to fill in the missing ones.
any ideas?

If you aren't OCing, the only thing you really need additional cooling on is the NVIO chip. The only reason I have everything sinked is because my card is volt modded and overclocked.

A single ram sink (or a quater of the ram sink that comes with the AC) will do, in your case.

*EDIT* This is the NVIO chip, if you didn't already know:
