Default bfg 7300GT at 55~60C...

well my card is mostly at 55~60C idle/ playing CS.
so I went out and bought arctic silver 5 and replace a new layer of thermal paste. looks like it is still the same....still around 55~60C idle. (59at the moment)
is this card suppose to be running at this hot?....it is still a stock fan btw.

that's not hot at all. Graphics cards can run a lot hotter than CPU's. My card hits 110 degrees playing l4d and still works, just doesn't want to die. You shouldn't worry until maybe 90 degrees C.

I see...cause many of my friends are telling me that its not normal for cards like 7300 to run at this hot, like one of my frd said that his ATI HD 3850 runs at 39C...thats much cooler than mine is at lol
my 7300 is just about hot as my 9800 =/
and I thought if the card reaches a certain degree that its too hot it would auto shut down, where do I check that?

60c at load is perfectly normal. And a HD3850 (although being 55nm) doesn't run at 39c under load unless it's watercooled. My HD3850 loads at 68c.

110c load isn't good... It means two things. You probably have a bad dust problem, and next to no airflow in your case.

I just tried some other games, I do play some anime mmos...
and when I am in game, my card goes up to 80C...
is that still normal?, I am pretty sure I pretty much cleaned out the dust and there is airflow in the case

no graphics card should reach the temperature where you can vaporize water
i'd keep the temp under 90°C at full load

and round 60° idle is a lot,try stressing it,if it gets too hot,you have to take action

...80° is still fine

though i've had the same card, and it was a lot cooler, round 60-65° at load

80c is still no problem, but if you are worried that much you could also buy aftermarket cooling for it.

7300gs will have 60c temp pretty much consistantly. the die size very small so even with new heatsink and paste, nothing really will change. plus, these cards should handle above 85 C easy. i have mine running 60 idle... and 72 max load even with good paste and a seperate card running on the card.

7300gt should be very similar

or maybe you could get some fans for your case, check temp of other components, maybe they're all heating more than they should
