Ok. Thanks. Interesting to see. Regarding Atitool I also got that message when I ran it now. I havent run it for a month or so, but last time I ran it it showed memory and core clocks correctly. I bet this has something to do with 182.50 or newer nvidia drivers not bein able to communicate with the program, just like with the 185's not working with rivatuner. It works for checking temps though.

+1 rep for a job well done

Edit: Forgot to say: I listened quite a lot to porcupine tree a few years ago. Some of the earlier albums were great.

Here are the last of the pics. I am going to add an exhaust fan to the side and get some of that hot air out of there. This is really causing a lot of heat build up inside the case.

The VRMs waiting for the heat sink to be applied.

Heat sinks installed.

Back plate installed, this time with the proper thermal pads. I am going to try to put the back plate on the first card just with some thermal paste and see if that helps.

Getting ready to apply the GPU heat sink. I used a lot less TIM on this installation than before. I still could have used a little less. I chose OCZ Freeze.

Installed and ready to go.

Both cards installed in Athena.

I was going to get one, but I read that they basically did nothing for the VRM.

Yea they make VRM temps worse. By at least 15C. I'm mostly folding on my cards and my VRMs are anywhere from 68C (A 353 point WU) to 82C (a 511).

I just put a Scythe Slipstream in my side panel as exhaust. I will see how that affects temps. It's a little loud so I'll be switching it for something else for the long term. I have the GPU fans at 55% and it's dead silent. Even at 100% you can barely hear it.

GPU 0 511 point WU (No exhaust fan on side panel)
GPU - 54C
Mem - 46
Amb - 45
VRM - 83

GPU 1 353 point WU (No exhaust fan)
GPU - 47C
Mem - 39
Amb - 39
VRM - 71

GPU 0 511 point WU (With Slipstream 1900RPM as exhaust fan)
GPU - 53C
Mem - 45
Amb - 43
VRM - 79

GPU 1 353 point WU (Slipstream exhaust)
GPU - 44C
Mem - 36
Amb - 37
VRM - 67

Hey

Installed Accelero Xtreme 280 on my XFX GTX 285 using some Enzo mosfets, the NVIO heatsink along with the memory heatsink. I installed the mosfets on the VRM and then just used the heatsinks that came along with the Accelero Xtreme. I am not even sure the mosfets were needed.

The 1st picture is a picture with the XFX stock cooler with no overclocking and the next is with a 741core/1600shader/1403memory overclock. This is just great and my CPU will not run hot anymore because of the graphics card.

I have a i7 920 in an Antec 1200 case with very good airflow in it. Too bad Everest Ultima is not able to read my VRM temperature - I wonder why!

Thanks to all those posting in this and other threads regarding the Accelero Xtreme 280, it helpes me decide what to do.

P.S

A overclocked card that only goes up by 3-4 degrees is fantastic.

Hi mate. Yes. Its a great gpu cooler. Before my upgrade to this cooler I actually overheated all the time at stock cooling. Now I'm barely over the temperatures I have on stock.

Regarding the VRM's, use Rivatuner temperature monitor. Go into the temperature monitor under "customize". Click "setup" -> "plugin" and then activate "VT1103.dll". You should get feedback from all vrm's. Maybe you have to check the "VRM phase 1 (to 5) temperature" options on the setup screen.

A vrm is a Voltage Regulator Module, which regulates the power going through your graphics card (quite a lot nowadays ). Usually referred to in multiples.

511wu refers to folding and points. 511 points work unit or something like that. Search these forums to find out more

Hmm...I am really thinking about one of these coolers for my new BFG GTX 280 OCX. I'm a little worried about the VRM temps tho. I do overclock, and play a lot of games. I recently began sporadically folding as well, so will the increase of the VRM temps be troublesome for me? I have an Antec 900 with all the fans on high, and my normal idle temp for my card ATM is like 40-45c, and load can get as high as 70-73c. Does anyone know the thermal specs for the VRM?

I have to say also that the fact that it takes up three slots might be another issue, as I currently have my tuner card directly below my GPU. I guess I might have to do some moving around...just looked...not gonna work for me...damn...this sucks..I was really wanting this cooler...
