I've read that its rated to run at about 100c, so I think you probably would be safe, even without a vrm sink. What freaked me out was that I got this huge leap when running Furmark. I was up at 139c at one point with the accelero vrm cooler But then again, Furmark is a great lot hotter than any real life game out there.

I say go for it. If you can live without your stock cooler, do the vrm cooler mod mentioned in my thread (link in sig). I am one of those who like to be on the safe side (if not I tend to think that every bug or artifact caused by software is a hardware problem), so I didnt want to live with the AC vrm cooler. There are others here that seem to think its fine though. Just be careful with Furmark, and I think you'll be ok.

Hope that helps.

It helps, but is also moot. Since it takes up 3 slots, I won't be able to have my tv tuner card connected, unless someone knows definitively that the PCIe x1 slot that is brown, and set aside for the add-in SUpreme FX II sound module on my ASUS Rampage Formula mobo will allow me to use it for my tuner. I guess I could try it first...I just wouldn't want to spend the money for the cooler only to not be able to use it.

In my manual it says "Audio/PCI Express x1 slot 1". To me this indicates that this will work with a normal pcie x1 card, as the others are called "PCI Express x1 slot 2" and 3. This is on a p5e mobo though. I guess you would have to disable the audio function in the bios.

I'm about to get rid of my Supremefx II (crap compared to my Esi Esp 1010), and would also very much like to get some info on this. I have my only 2 spare pcie x1's obstructed by this cooler. Please post or pm your findings Demented, if you test this yourself.

The "511 point WU" means 511 point Work Unit. It is from GPU Folding and is notorious for being the most heat intensive and demanding work unit out there. It creates anywhere from 10-20C more heat on the GPU and takes awhile to complete. It's very hard on the GPU. Check out the link to learn more about folding! Also, visit Stanford University's Folding@Home web page where this research project originates.

A Work Unit is a single set of instructions calculated by a CPU or in this case a GPU. Stanford has created a program that uses your CPU or GPU to calculate huge numbers. Both clients can be run simultaneously, if you don't have a Quad Core then forget about CPU folding. The research goes back to Stanford where it is compared to hundreds of thousands of other clients running the same programs and work units. The information is used to predict protein folding for medical research of disease and other phenomena. Most notably is the research done for Huntington's Disease and Alzheimer's disease. The amount of information to be calculated would take even the most advanced super computer hundreds of years to complete in some cases. With this distributed computing project it will take hundreds of thousands of computers maybe a few years to complete.

Regarding the VRM's, use Rivatuner temperature monitor. Go into the temperature monitor under "customize". Click "setup" -> "plugin" and then activate "VT1103.dll". You should get feedback from all vrm's. Maybe you have to check the "VRM phase 1 (to 5) temperature" options on the setup screen.
I do not think my XFX 285 has any sensor there, because I can not get it to work. I would think that Everest Ultima would show it pr auto if there were anymore sensors on the card. Thanks for the tip anyway.
