I took apart my 8800GT as it was just sitting around and was full of dust. Okay... so maybe it was mainly curiosity... Since it had thermal pads installed, I have a feeling there will be a gap when I put my AS5 (lol) on there. Do I need to purchase some thermal pads, or will AS5 work? As this will just be my folding card once I get my rig back up and running, I don't want a different cooler for it.
Here are some photos of the process: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

AS5 will work just fine, i used it on my gpu, just make sure not to be messy because it will kill the card.

Wow. Get that card off the floor! lol BTW if you are gonna use AS5 on the memory (where the thermal pads where at) be sure to not get it over the edges. AS5 is conductive and will fry the memory if given a electrical path to do so.

TIM will work, but I woudn't use AS5 just for the fact that if you put too much on, and it gets on the card, you'll short it out. Get some MX-2 and you won't have that problem.

AS5 is all I have. I'll be careful!

I used AS5 when I put my Duorb with my 8800GT and it fired up fine.
