Hello all! I want to run 3 high end video cards in Tri-SLI, but due to the environment this computer will be run in, I need to keep things as quiet as possible, but I am **NOT** interested in going to liquid cooling. I used to have a passively cooled 8600GT, and that had served it's purpose perfectly, however I have the need to move onto bigger and better cards. Basically, I wanted to see if there are any passive cooling options out there for any of the higher end graphics cards. I saw that there is a passive 9800GT:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...IN#detailspecs which looks like a great option, but I still wanted to see if there's something better out there. I'd really be interested in any passive cooling for any of the GTX 200 cards, 9800GX2's, or 9800GTX+. I'm open to any ideas stock or 3rd party. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! woody

there are passive 4850's that i know of; also you can get large aftermarket heatsinks like the various arctic cooling accelero's.

I think the OP wants to know what are the best cards these heatsinks can passively cool.

I don't think you can really do it. There isn't enough room between the three cards to fit a passive system. Two of the cards will have their airflow choked by adjacent cards.

you could do it diy style by getting like a dremel and find some massive heatsinks and just make it yourself

with three cards... there is a thread floating around somewhere with a list of aftermarket GPU heatsinks... idk; imo you should stick with two cards anyway - three is practically useless.

Well thanks for all the responses guys
![]() Just to clear things up, I am aiming for either a GTX 275, 280, or 285. So I want to find a way to passively cool one of those. Please let me know what you guys got

The Accelero S1 can passively cool the G92 cards, and with good case air flow, might even be able to manage SLI (though you'd need to cut or bend one of the fins on the top card to get the SLI connector through).
__________________However, I cannot think of any passive cooler that could keep any of the GT200s stable, unless you underclocked it quite a bit. There are quiet solutions, but not passive ones.

If you are looking at those cards, I guess your best bet is to get some HR-03s and mount a very low rpm, very quiet fan. It won't be completely silent, but it will be damn close to it. I've heard that the CM R4 is a nice quiet and reasonably high cfm fan, maybe you could undervolt it and make it virtually silent?
