Default Correct adhesive for VRAM heatsink?

Well, the title says it all

I'm currently using a waterblock for my cards, but GPU Only. I use a generic kit for my 8800GTs, pasted with, well... pasted. A "built in" glue that the sinks got installed. Mixed with a bit of Loctite, because they were always going off.

So, is that going to kill them at long-range by poor heat transfer?

I managed to unweld them all without killing the mem modules, and now I'm able to paste them again. With what, any recomendation? Or was Loctite ok?

The Loctite is probably not a great idea. All the kinds of thread lockers I've ever used eventually dry out (due to heat and oxygen) to actually "lock" the screw/bolt. I'm sure that would cause the thermal paste to have less contact in certain areas and yes, to cause them to heat up noticeably in the in end. This is the kind of product you should look for:

Thermal adhesive (paste formula):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100005

Or...

Thermal tape

http://bestbyte.net/mm5/merchant.mvc...&Store_Code=BB

I'd stick with the paste though.

Not sure where you'd find either of those in Spain, however.

Nice, I know where to find Arctic Silver Adhesive, but, it's also a TIM or I do need to apply TIM aside of this adhesive? D:

No you don't need extra TIM if you apply the adhesive. The adhesive is permanent so be careful what you put it on or you will have a hard time removing it.

Not much help for face down HS's, but on the backside UP VRAM's I just have the mini sinks sitting on top of them with ceramique in between, they only come off if you slide them sideways.

I had similar results with AS5 but I'd assume Ceramique would be better (thicker and non-conductive)

Aye its good stuff. I'm still thinking about whether its worth finding a good adhesive pad so I can mount a HS on the ass end of the GPU (the topside) see if I can loose a few more degree's.

So I'm keeping an eye on this thread

I'll be ordering it then.
Pasting directly to the module, no pad on the middle, amirite?

Also, as you said this is not easy to remove. I unpasted the Superglue by putting the card on a freezer. Superglue quarters on the cold. There is no way of unweld AS Adhesive after using?

I hear if you mix the AS Adhesive with some AS5, it should be less permanent and easier to remove. Never tried it myself. Computer stores in my city don't know what I am even talking about when I ask for the adhesive, I've been trying to find some for forever now. I can't really buy anything online either. Mixing the two does sound like it will work though. Using the pads I have actually had ram sinks fall off. And had I not been using an Accelero cooler, it would have fell onto my second 8800GT's backside. Luckily it got caught on the Acclero and no harm was done, but in your situation it wouldn't be good if one fell on your second 8800.

Yes, you can thin thermal epoxy with normal thermal paste.

I use arctic alumina + ceramique quite frequently. Doesn't make it too much easier to remove, but allows solvents to disolve the bond faster, which then makes them easier to remove.
