Exclamation GTX285 Nearing Tmax :(

Hey guys.

Been having some temp issues with my latest build, and not looking forward to summer.

PC Specs

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 @ 3.80GHz
CPU Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems (Using AS5 TIM)
M/B: Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME
RAM: 12GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz
HDD: 80GB Western Digital (Boot)
HDD1: Seagate 320GB (Games and Applications)
HDD2: Samsung 500GB (Data)
HDD3: Seagate 1.5TB (Sitting doing nothing)
GPU: SLI GTX285
Case: Antec P193
Power Supply: Antec CP-850 (One that is designed for the case.)

I know (Off nVidia Site and many other sites) that the maximun temperature for the GT200 chip is 105 degrees. After that, the core is known to fail.

I was testing my overclock for the cards, and my top card came to 99 Degree's under load!

This is using the OCCT GPU Test.

Now, as the cards are in SLi, there is a very small gap between the top and bottom card, leaving little room for airflow, but I would imagine this would be taken into consideration when designed...

Only other thing I can think of, is the thermal paste, which nVidia have been known to do badly.

So, after replacing the thermal paste, temps didn't change very much at all, and even increased when idling

These cards are supposed to last until April next year, when I will be upgrading to DX11, but with summer coming, and temps nearing 105 degrees in winter, they may not last that long.

Pic of card overheating...

Any help appreciated

Thanks.

What fan speed was it when those test were done?i dunno what to tell you really those temps seem WAY WAY too high although it could just be the OCCT gpu test that's making them that hot. Run some games like crysis and frycry then see what temps are. Program stress tests over work the cards way past their spec and make them hotter then they will ever get in normal operation. I dont recommend using OCCT gpu OR furmark as people have killed their cards that way. Come back with gaming temps at 80% fan speed.

Hey mate

As you can see in that screenshot I uploaded, fan speeds for both cards were 100%.

I do agree that the OCCT is overly stressful, but I have found that it is the only half decent way to stress test the cards once they are overclocked.

During Crysis Warhead, the top card reaches 90 - 95 degrees at 100% fan, this was before and after I re - applied the TIM.

Thanks for your suggestions.
