Wow 64 or 70C idle is high imo. I don't know how hot the 9 series but my GTX 275 is idle @ 42C. AS5 needs sometime to cure i think.

Did you do a proper cleaning be4 you apply the new tim? maybe too much paste i think. I had to do it twice to get the temp down, my first time wasn't a smooth spread.

There is a cure in time (about 200 hours). Leave it on for a few days and it should drop the temps a bit more. Try taking up some folding while you're at it too

ya leave it sometime to cure in. The mx-2 i used doesn't need cure in tho. Maybe up your fan a little bit? 75% is barely audible w/ my 275 and it keeps the temp down well.

When you do this, make sure you have the core completely covered in TIM(AS5), or you could end up with a "hotspot" on the core that doesn't have any paste. It could damage the core. Also, make sure you tighten the heatsink back up well, with enough pressure.

How good were the temp drops? I'm thinking of doing this with my 9800GT if there's a big enough difference.

The resistors were covered with paste before i cleaned. But i didn't apply TIM on the resistors. Just put some on memory chips and the core.
