I have personally experienced around a ~15c temperature drop after maybe 100 hours. You need to heat cycle it also, but wait for the temps to start dropping more before you really load up the processor, this is just my opinion.
In other words the temperature increase at first is unavoidable, and the temperature difference if it was applied by a TIM applying robot would likely be minimal if you did it reasonably well.
