Default Need help to apply AS5 on my 9800GT

Hi folks!
:P[I had a similar thread on Intel cooling forum]

So, i got my hand on the AS5 tube minutes ago.

My card idles at 60/64 degrees. So, I've decided to apply AS5 on it to lower the temps.

What is the best way to apply thermal paste on my 9800GT?

Now, I don't have thermal pads to put on VRAM so I don't want to remove the stock pads. I just want to put it just on the GPU core. Is that ok? How to do it without removing stock pads?

leave stock pads on the memory syncs their ok to reuse just be careful removing the cooler and dont rip them off. Clean the gpu core with 100% acetone till its a mirror finish again and you can read the words on the core. Apply AS5 VERY thinly to core also clean the heatsync of the left over thermal paste. You can buy replacement memory thermal pads if you want to wait and redo everything.

I just changed the TIM on my GTX 275 few days ago too and I didn't touch my Vram's thermal pads. I just spread it out on the Nvidia core a smooth thin layer and that's it. My temp lowered 2-3C, i used MX-2 tho not AS5. I saw somewhere a guy he put the thermal paste on the vram's thermal pads too, i didnt try tho. Don't know if that would lower some temps more or not.

So, i don't need to put AS5 on VRAM and heatsink?

Also, the main confusing point, should i spread the paste myself or put a rice-grain sized paste in the middle?

rice grain size is for CPU only because it will cover a large area. you just need a tiny little dab on there. Thats what I did with my 9800GT and it dropped temps about 6*

Spread a thin layer on yourself you do not want as5 getting anywhere on the pcb.

yep don't put too much otherwise the AS5 might get to the pcb surface and AS5 is conductive.

Ok, after applying AS5, pcb temperature went to 42 degree from 45 degree idle.
But, GPU temp went to 70 degree from 64 degree idle.

I've heard somewhere that AS% needs 200 hours to work.
So, is that ok?
