Default Reapplying thermal on 8800GTS - Need tips.

So I decided to reapply the thermal on my graph card after I red this guide:
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia-cool...u-install.html

But now I'm hitting some speed bumps and might need a little advice about few things..

How it was:

Atm:

Questions:
- What is that white thing on the cooler?
- Can I remove the frame from the core? (Some thermal paste stuck between)

The white stuff i think is thermal pads. Correct me someone if im wrong. So in your case i would just clean off the thermal "paste" using alcohol 90%+ let it dry. reapply the thermal paste according to the link you were referring to earlier.

The white stuff is thermal pads and don't touch them clean them or do anything with them because it can easily lose efficiency. You can disassemble the card but remember not to mess up those pads!

Once your done cleaning were you need, put it back together. Take the GPU core and the heat sink were the core sits and use an eraser to get rest of gunk off. Then take paper towel and wipe excess off( that is to remove eraser oil/ pick up the debre). Next take some MX-2(non conductive)/ don't know what you got and spread it all around the die is a slightly thicker then you normally do to a CPU cause they put that much paste on there so the heat sink can have absolute guarantee contact. For me, I spread it then put a small drop added to the center and works very well. You also want a "suction" between the GPU die and the sink to make sure no air/ proper connectivity is happening.

Hope this helps!

Nevermind, I just put togather the card, and its working good, reduced the heat by 7-9°C on idle, hasn't done any stress test

Some people use like acrylic paste for the ram sinks but it doesnt really do to much and it gets messy.

Apply a good think layer (about the thickness of paper) of MX-2 onto your chip and anything that has a white thermal pad on it. Those pads are crap.

Then set it down and twist it side to side if you can. Tighten it down.

DONE!

WOW I cant believe how big the actual GPU is. That must be a 320 or 640 version. Funny tho I just had mine apart last night to do the same thing.
