Default New Cooler "Blew" Me Away

So over the past few months my Stock 8800 GT cooler had been getting worse and worse. It got to the point where I couldn't even play Burnout Paradise or Crysis without it overheating (Peaked at 105C). After asking around here, I decided to get the Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev.2.

I installed it with 1 Silverstone 120mm fan zip tied to it two nights ago and man, does this thing cool. Before with stock cooling running Crysis at Very High (1920x1200) would result in a peak temp of 105C. My GPU was getting so hot it could boil water. Now, running Crysis at Very High (2048x1152) results in a mere peak of 45C.

That's a 60C difference right there. Was this cooler worth $25? Hell yeah. If you're still stuck with the 8800 GT's ****astic stock cooler and are looking for a good aftermarket, you can't go wrong with the Accelero S1. Just make sure you have the space. With my fan attached, the cooler takes up a good 3 slots in addition to the graphics card.

Stock 8800 GT Crysis Very High Peak (1920x1200; 100% Fan Speed): 105C
Accelero S1 8800 GT Crysis Very High Peak (2048x1152; 100% Fan Speed): 45C

Here's a pic, taken with my camera phone. I know, it's a really terrible shot, but it's the best the phone can do. D:

Edit: New Pics

I really hate it how manufacturers slack off with their cooling.

Yeah, the cooler design was horribly flawed. It had a huge heatsink, but most of it was covered by a plastic cover, preventing airflow. On top of that, it had what looked to be a 40mm fan that barely blew any air and sounded like an aircraft taking off.

I wasn't expecting such extreme results though. I'm guessing it's a combination of good case airflow, the fact that the stock fan was dying, and the top notch fan & cooler combo I have now.

It's a beautiful thing, man! I just posted a how-to for the XFX 8800GS. I am WAY overclocked and it is running under 50'C seemingly forever.

http://www.overclock.net/nvidia-cool...fx-nvidia.html

And yes, the stock cooler on the XFX 8800GS XXX sounded like a hair dryer on full blast inside my computer.

Yeah, I took the pictures with my Cell Phone. Not the best way...

Well, I took some more with a REAL camera this time. As for the wires, I know I could do a better job, but this case has no windows so it doesn't really bother me too much. :P

good cable management isnt just for looks. Its for improved airflow which is what you need for that case.
