There are no exact answers on the internet whether the aftermarket Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 rev2 GPU cooler will fit the XFX Nvidia 8800GS XXX card. Here is the answer: YES IT FITS AND YES IT WORKS VERY WELL!
__________________For those of you who like to make inexpensive products work better than intended, this one is for you. This will get rid of the horribly loud stock fan and drop temps dramatically. 80'C+/- stock down to 50'C+/-. I am installing the 4 heatpipe version of the card, the 2 pipe version is the S2. (You can see both in the first pic. I have been leeching from the community for a while now, hopefully this will help someone in return. I'm sure there are 1000 different methods of doing this, but this is the way I did it, and it works fine with massive overclocking results. This took me about 3 hours. . . . -Accelero S1 ver2. Had an S2 on hand in case S1 wouldn't fit! Scythe VGA chip heatsinks. The ones that come with the Accelero kit have a bad reputation on the forums. Quality thermal compound. I chose A/C MX-2 for safety. Tools. ![]() . . . -Now lets get to work here... 4 phillips screws on the back of the card will release the heatsink/fan. ![]() . . . -Use cotton swabs with light amounts of the 90%+ rubbing alcohol to clean GPU, memory chips and anything else you will be sticking the adhesive heat sinks to. After that use a quality brand pencil and literally rub/erase the surface of the memory chips and surfaces you plan to adhere the heatsinks to. After erasing, I wiped the surfaces with a dry, lint free cloth. DO NOT RUB/ERASE ON THE GPU. ![]() . . . -Here is all the heatsinks in place. Notice I put some on more than just the ram surfaces. Be sure to check the height of the Scythe heatsinks and make sure you have clearance before sticking them on. To get them to hold firm, I applied pressure for about 2 minutes on each one. The Scythe heatsinks stick very well compared to the ones that came with the cooler. These heatsinks conduct electricity, be wary of how close you place them to other metal! ![]() . . . -I even put a few on the back side, and they do get quite hot. Also notice how I removed the black plastic top and bottom on the cooler. ![]() . . . -Now on to installing the cooler. Before putting the thermal compound of your choice on, take note how the screw holes which hold the heatsink tight to the GPU are flexible metal. Be sure they are all bent in a manner which will draw slight force when tightened down. You can test-fit it to check. You will be stucking the plastic washers to the four OUTER screw holes. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS, or you will be screwed! ![]() . . . -In order to install the clips which hold onto the fins/top of card, I had to remove the metal rail. The card unfortunately does flex alot more. ): ![]() . . . -Finished product. Takes up 3 card slots with a 120mm fan. This would work fine on my mobo in sli, just using thinner fans. ![]() . . . -Mega overclocking, GPU and CPU running at 100% load for hours. 680core, 1700shaders, 800mhz ram from the factory. Now at 750core, 950mhz ram and 1875 shaders. Stock 80'C, with this cooler I run 50'C all day long. ![]() EDIT: 735core, 1837shader, 935ram is stable after a few weeks of fooling around with it. 52'C is the highest temp I have seen so far after hours of gaming. An increase of any of the 3 settings more than 20 mhz above what they are now will cause artifacts via ATI Tool.

Right now it is about 21'C or 71'F in this room. I just finished running those tests for over an hour. I used the dot method with the MX-2 paste. That is a nice and quiet 35cfm fan too.

Not sure, I am new to this also. The one thing I made sure of was that the cooler fins had clearance over the ram heat sinks. The Zalman did not look like it did in pictures. But I am also a cheap bastard and wanted the least expensive possible, and Zalman is not the cheapest.

I honestly love my accelero over my old VF900. IMO the VF900 was just too loud and didn't cool all that wonderfully, but it was nice and small. I love the accelero because it leaves so much room for customization and tweaking.

It sure does, I just wish the darn settings could be saved! It is annoying loading the GPU overclock profile every time I start the computer up.

What do you mean? I save mine. I've never had to open it up again unless I wanted to change something.

The Nvidia control panel will not save the overclock settings for the GPU. I can save them into a profile, but must reload them everytime Windows loads. This is with Win7 and WinXP. Strange.
