Default Need confirmation Accelero XTREME GTX280 SLi

I've been searching this forum but didn't really get solid answer.

Would Accelero 2 x XTREME GTX 280 fit on 2 x GTX 285 SLi? (I have Gigabyte ga-ex58-ud5 + thermaltake armor plus case)

Has anyone tried fittin in Accelero XTREME GTX 280 on GTX 285? any additional heatsink needed?

I googled that board and it looks to have 3 PCIe slots. The only way to 2w SLI is to use slots 1 and 3 to make room. If that third slot isn't at least 8x then it wouldn't be worth doing.

You need two empty slots between PCIe for the GTX and the cooler.

Basically it turns your GTX from a 2slot card to a 3 slot.

I'm not sure what do you mean by 8x?

PCIe is mesured in the number of serial lanes it has. There is 1x which has 1 lane. there is 4x which has 4 lanes, 8x has 8 lanes and 16x has 16 lanes.

A gtx 285 is going to need 8 lanes or the buss will be choking the card. If you look at the mother board specs it should tell you how the PCIe slots are configured.

From Newegg's specs on that board "3 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 (x16, x16, x8)"

So the third slot is x8 your good to go.

Would it affect the performance (using 16x and 8x pci)?

It shouldn't, only the 4870x2 or the GTX 295 need more than x8.

For SLI/Crossfire, 8x/8x will negatively impact very high res performance, even with single GPU cards.
